California State University News
CSU EPT/ELM placement tests: Tests are required unless you are exempt from your
EAP or SAT/ACT scores. Take tests as early as possible, go to
www.csustan.edu/testing to register and for information. You may test at CSU
Stanislaus for all CSU campuses ELM/EPT: Placement Tests must be ear ly, check
with your campus to see important deadlines, most campuses want testing completed by the
March test date. Next test date available is February 11th.

D’s/F’s in semester Grades/Dropping classes?
Please be aware that if you receive a D or an F in a college prep course for the
semester, you MUST notify each college where you applied. If you drop a class
that you reported on applications that you planned on taking second semester,
you must also notify each college in writing. Email each admissions office with
any of these situations ASAP!
ACT/SAT
Send all official scores now to your colleges, do not wait! If colleges do not receive
your scores, they may rescind your application!
SCHOLARSHIPS!
Please let Mrs. Pitts know about any scholarships you receive. Bring letters confirming
your scholarship so you will be included at Awards Night in the spring.

MJC News
If you did not attend the MJC application workshop here on campus, you can still
apply to MJC to take spring classes that start in January. Remember, classes at MJC
are free for high school students. You must go to the MJC website to apply, here are
the steps to follow:
 Apply online at www.mjc.edu
 Do the online orientation
 Set up your MJC email account
 Either download a high school petition form to attend classes at MJC or see Mrs.
Pitts to get one
 Get forms signed, including parent signatures, return signed forms to MJC
 Register for classes once you receive date to register
 Strongly suggest you take Guidance 110
Apply for summer/fall classes at MJC! You must file a separate MJC application that
lists you as a graduated student. Apply NOW!
MJC Scholarships: Go to www.mjc.edu, go to scholarship page. Many
scholarships for those attending MJC. The final deadline is December 16, 2016.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Must be a senior, legal US resident, and eligible to
attend a two year or four year college. There are four available scholarships to apply; one for a student of Asian heritage, one for a student who is African American, one for a student who is Hispanic,
and one for a student regardless of race, color, creed, or religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability
or national origin. Go to http://www.rmhc.org/rmhc-us-scholarships to apply. Deadline to apply is
January 18, 2017.
California Wine Grape Growers Foundation-For high school seniors whose parents are vineyard employees. You can be attending either a community college or CSU/UC. Two $4000 scholarships and
four $1000 scholarships are available. Go to www.cawgfoundation.org to apply. Deadline to apply is
March 24, 2017,
CTA Scholarship for Dependent Children-Applicant must have a parent that is active, retired or a
deceased member of California Teachers Association. High school grade point average should reflect
a high unweighted average. Scholarships are awarded based on the applicant’s statement, school and
community activities and two letters of recommendation. Thirty-five $5000 scholarships are awarded.
Go to www.cta.org/scholarships. Deadline is February 3.
Dan Savage Middle School High School Scholarship- $250 scholarship for awarded to a graduate of
Savage Middle School. If you graduated from Dan Savage Middle School you are automatically eligible to apply. Go to Savage Middle School website to apply. Deadline to submit application is February
10, 2017.
New Scholarships Continued...
North Modesto Kiwanis Scholarship– 15 $1000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors who have a
2.75, plan to attend a 2 year or 4 year college in California. Preference is given to students whose annual family income is $75,000-$150,000. See Mrs. Pitts for an application. Deadline to apply is March
17, 2017.
The California Association of Collectors, Inc.-First place will receive $2500, second place will receive
$2000, and third place will receive $1500. It’s a simple onepage application and a 700-1000 word essay
on the “Importance of Establishing and Maintaining Good Credit during Your College Years.” Download an application at www.cacesf.org. The online application will launch January 2 and must be submitted by March 30.
Tom Mellis Memorial Scholarship– This $2500 scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding high
school senior actively participating in varsity sports. Applicants will be judged on their scholastic record, involvement in community service, and student leadership. Official transcript required. Applications must be received by January 15. 2017.
Sons of Italy Scholarships– There are three scholarships in which a student can apply: Academic
Awards, Athletic Scholarship Award; Italian Language Study Grants in Italy for Summer of 2017.
Applicant must be wholly or partially of Italian descent, enroll in college in fall 2017, and if applying
for the athletic scholarship must be pursuing a career in sports or other sports related profession. Go

PG&E Scholarships– There are multiple scholarships ranging from $1000-$5000 offered through
PG&E. Go to www.pge.com/about/community/scholarships/ to download an application. Deadline to
apply is February 1, 2017.
eQuality Scholarship-$6000 scholarships will be awarded to students planning on attending a 2 year,
4 year or trade/technical school. This scholarship recognizes service to the lesbian/gay/bisexual/or
transgender community. Go to www.equalityscholarship.org to apply. Deadline to apply is February
1, 2017.
Christermon Foundation-Scholarships available for students whose parents or grandparents work for
a company with a valid liquor, beer or wine license. Retailers/airlines/restaurants/hotels/suppliers/distributors/ breweries/wineries, etc. Go to
http://www.christermon.com/scholarship/applications.php Deadline to apply is February 1, 2017.
John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest-from $500-$10000 in awards and an expense paid
trip to Boston. All students must register online www.jfklibrary.org Essays must be submitted by January 4, 2017.
GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship-Numerous students will receive a $10,000 renewable scholarship.
If you have at least a 3.0 GPA, good citizenship and strong leadership you should apply! Apply online
at www.reaganfoundation.org/scholarships. Deadline to apply is January 5, 2017.
Burger King Scholars-$50,000 in scholarship awards are available to high school seniors who have at
least a 2.5 GPA or higher. Go to www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/WhatWeDo/ScholarsProgram.
Deadline to apply is December 15, 2017.
Soroptimist International of Modesto Scholarship- 4 $1000 scholarships will be awarded to senior
girls who have shown excellent community service, academic merit, and have financial need. Deadline
to apply is February 1, 2017. See Mrs. Pitts for an application.
Central Valley Automotive Player with Drive-3 scholarships awarded to students who attended high

Healthcare Leaders Scholarship- For students pursuing an educational program related to nursing or
medicine. Minimum GPA 3.0 and requires 600-1000 word essay explaining what they hope to accomplish during the career in the medical field and how the scholarship would fulfill those goals. Deadline

Asian Pacific Fund; $500-$20,000. Any ethnic background can apply, Min 3.0 GPA, big variety of
