Development Connection Methodology Requirements This document has been produced to assist Contractors in creating an acceptable connection methodology which details all the information required by the City for the connection application to the City’s water and sewerage systems. Separate methodologies are required for water and sewer connections. This document shows examples of water and sewer information combined in the one methodology as an example only. Individual methodologies only will be accepted as submitted methodologies. Where multiple connections are required for water or sewer works, each connection/location shall be clearly defined in the description of works, material requirements and the construction methodology sections accordingly. It is the Contractors responsibility to determine the actual location, size and material of the existing infrastructure, and the location of other infrastructure between the connection point on the main to the boundary, where each connection will be completed. The Contractor must determine if the connection is capable of being installed as per the design, including how it may impact on surrounding infrastructure eg thrust blocks are not permitted to be poured against other infrastructure without a special design. This shall be done prior to the connection methodology being written to ensure the correct equipment, materials and staff qualifications are listed correctly and available on site for the works. Where the Contractor fails to undertake this preliminary investigation work and the work cannot be completed on site in accordance with the accepted Developer Connection Methodology or design, the connection may be cancelled by the City’s Representative. The connection will need to be rescheduled after the design has been reassessed by the Consultant for the Development and the City of Gold Coast. The Contractor is liable for any costs associated with this cancellation or change to design. --------------------------------------------INSTRUCTIONS 1. The following shall be used as a base for all connection methodologies. The City will not accept any methodologies which are not in the following format. 2. The Contractor shall include their company logo on the top of the methodology 3. The Contractor shall update the methodology date and revision number each time the methodology is updated. 4. The Contractor must complete all relevant sections with the information required for each individual connection. Each connection point shall be clearly delineated. 5. Reference to all of the relevant SEQ standard drawings must be included within the description of works and for each main step in the Construction Methodology section. 6. All thrust blocks etc must be included in the Construction Methodology section where applicable. 7. The Contractor shall estimate a timeframe for each step in the Construction Methodology section. This shall be used to review the overall time expected for each connection and whether the connection(s) can be completed within the permissible outage timeframe of 5 hours where applicable. --------------------------------------------- Rev. 1, 11/02/2015 iSpot #48030328 Development Connection Methodology Requirements Page 1 of 5 Developer Connection Methodology for Water/Sewer Connections Project Name: Twisted Gum Estate Stage 4 Location: 672 Lost Road, Notuwory OPW Number: 2014001522 Contractor: Jimbob Constructions Pty Ltd Methodology date and revision number: 24/06/11 Rev 04 Description of Works Twisted Gum Estate Stage 4 requires 2 water connections and 1 sewer connections to the existing GCW networks. Personal Protection Equipment Rev. 1, 11/02/2015 iSpot #48030328 Development Connection Methodology Requirements Page 3 of 5 The following lists all PPE to be used during the connection work: • Safety Boots • Long Pants & Sleeve Hi Vis Clothing • Gloves • Safety Glasses • Hard Hat • Harness and Tripod (for confined space work) c. Traffic Control Traffic control shall be provided for the duration of the construction work (for all connections) within the road reserve. One traffic lane shall be closed during works and pedestrians shall be diverted onto the opposite verge. The proposed Traffic Guidance Scheme (TGS) has been submitted with this Methodology as part of the connection application for review. GCCC and QPS permits shall be obtained once the connection application has been granted “approval in principle” and shall be submitted prior to approval to connect. All traffic control devices shall be installed onsite by certified personnel and controllers are required to be trained and certified. Network Isolation Requirements GCW have been to site and investigated the shutdown requirements. The existing water main can be isolated by closing the SV at the end of the existing mains. No properties will be affected. The existing sewer MH has low flows and therefore the connection work can be completed with no isolation required. All network isolations will be planned and completed by GCW. Constraints The following lists all constraints expected to be encountered during the connection work: • Traffic (vehicular/pedestrian) • Ground water • Acid Sulphate Soil • Other services/structures • Outage time restraints Construction Methodology The following steps outline the sequence/techniques to be used at Connection A and B. • Traffic and pedestrian controls to be implemented as per TGS including delineation of work site (30 mins) • Confirm location of existing services – Dials etc. (30 mins) • GCW to isolate end of line using existing end of line SV (SV to be tagged by GCW). (10 mins) • Excavate at end of existing end of line and end of new water pipe to 150mm below the bottom of pipe. (45 mins) • Carefully remove concrete thrust block and end cap from existing end of line. Refer SEQ-WAT-13031 for existing arrangement. (30 mins) • Connect pipes using gibault joint and backfill and compact over pipe. (10 mins) • GCW to open SV and flush new pipework accordingly. (SV tag to be removed by GCW). (30 mins) • Reinstate the area including turfing the verge to match the MH cover level. (30 mins) • Remove traffic controls. (20 mins) The following steps outline the sequence/techniques to be used at Connection C. • Traffic and pedestrian controls to be implemented as per TGS including delineation of work site (30 mins) • Confirm location of existing services – Dials etc. (30 mins) Rev. 1, 11/02/2015 iSpot #48030328 Development Connection Methodology Requirements Page 4 of 5 • • • • • • • • • • Confined space entry required for all work within the existing MH. Only confined space trained personnel shall enter the MH. Follow SWMS, complete air monitoring and entry permit. (15 mins) Install temporary ply sheet over existing benching within MH 15/03 to ensure debris does not enter benching. Flow in benching is considered low flow by GCW therefore no plug or bypass required. (10 mins) Excavate around existing MH 15/03 to 300mm below the bottom of new sewer pipe to allow concrete corer (Concrete Cutters Pty Ltd) to work from outside of MH. (45 mins) Install trench box and dewatering system, treat acid sulphate soil and groundwater according to Management Plan. (45 mins) Concrete Cutters Pty Ltd to core 200mm hole for penetration pipe at correct level for new pipe. (20 mins) Install type X drop as per SEQ-SEW-1303-1 including inspection bend, rocker pipe, hydrophilic seal and megapoxy. (30 mins) Modify existing benching to suit new type x drop as per SEQ-SEW-1306-1. (20 mins) Connect new sewer pipe to rocker pie and backfill and compact over pipe. (10 mins) Reinstate the area including turfing the verge to match the MH cover level. (30 mins) Remove traffic controls.
