Flickerball Study Guide

Flickerball
STUDY Guide
The object of the game is to pass the football to as many team members as possible, into the end zone, to
score a touchdown.
No steps are allowed when you have possession of the football (except the one step used when passing).
You are allowed to pivot.
At least one girl and one boy must successfully catch or throw the football for the touchdown to count.
You cannot guard a thrower. You can only guard the receivers.
Players must either throw the football forward or pitch (a lateral throw) it to a teammate.
A touchdown is worth one point for each DIFFERENT person on the team who catches or throws the
football.
Players must have two feet in the End Zone for the touchdown to count. No diving for the football.
An interception is a pass that is cut off by an opposing player.
If the ball is dropped by the offense, the defending team gains possession at the point where the football was
dropped. There is an exception to this rule. If the team recovering the football is over the center line (50 yard
line), the attacking team must bring the ball back to the center line and start the play from that point.
If a player drops a pass, it is incomplete and the football goes to the opposite team.
After a touchdown, place the football down in the end zone and the opposing team begins their series from
that spot.
Players have 3 seconds to throw or pitch (toss laterally) the football.
The offense is the team that is trying to score.
The defense is the team that is trying to stop their opponents from scoring.
Throwing the football
To help throw a spiral pass you should grip the ball on the laces, fingers on the back half of the football, index finger closest to the tip of the football, thumb wrapped around the underside of the ball.
When you throw a football, plant your stronger foot and step forward with your opposite foot.
Follow through to target.
Your Stance
Place both feet shoulder width apart with throwing shoulder back.
Raise football with both hands to ear level, laces facing away from you. (with thumbs together)
Face the target with non-throwing shoulder towards the target.
Catching the football
When catching a football, you should catch with your hands and then pull the ball into your body.
If the football is above the height of your chest, your hands should be in the open position, thumbs on
the bottom.
If the football is below the height of your chest, your hands should be in the open position, pinkies on
the bottom.
“GIVE” with the ball.
