ULTIMETER MODELS 2100, 800 & 100 SERIAL DATA SPECIFICATIONS
GENERAL
2400 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity. Flow control is “None” or “Hardware.”
Characters are ASCII hex digits (0-9, A-F).
All fields are 4 bytes except 2 bytes where indicated in the Complete Record Mode.
Most significant digit first.
SERIAL DATA OUTPUT MODES (detailed record structures are listed below)
Data Logger Mode: to manually select, press CLEAR + WIND SPEED for 3 seconds. While in this
mode, records are sent out continuously at up to about 120 per minute. The total record size is 48
hex digits + header, carriage return and line feed. (All models)
Packet Mode: to manually select, press CLEAR + WIND CHILL for 3 seconds. While in this mode,
one record is output every five minutes (at 5 min past the hour, 10 min past, 15 min past, etc.). The
total record length is 52 hex digits + header, carriage return and line feed. (All models)
Complete Record Mode: to manually select, press CLEAR + RAIN for 3 seconds.
While in this mode, data is output continuously. The total record size is 452 hex digits + header,
carriage return & line feed. This is the default mode of output on ULTIMETER 2100. (All models)
Complete History Mode: to manually select, press CLEAR + SCAN for 3 seconds.
While in this mode, data is output continuously. The total record size is 1208 hex digits + header,
carriage return & line feed. (models after 2003)
WeatherText Mode: to manually select, press CLEAR + LAMP for 3 seconds. When this mode is
selected, a WeatherText Complete History report is output, followed by the current 1-min
WeatherText report, followed by 1-min WeatherText reports at the top of each new minute. (models
after 2003)
Multiple Output Mode: to manually select, press CLEAR + CLOCK for 3 seconds.
While in this mode, data is output continuously: first, a WeatherText Complete History report
followed by the current 1-min WeatherText report; 1-min WeatherText reports every minute; in
between the 1-min WeatherText reports, the output is a repeating sequence of: one Data Logger
packet, one Complete Record packet, and one Complete History packet. (models after 2003)
Modem Mode – (input/output mode): to manually select, press CLEAR + TEMPERATURE for 3
seconds. While in this mode, there is no regular data output. (all ULTIMETER 2000 and 2100, all
other models after 2003)
NOTES:
1. Unless otherwise specified, the units of weather data are always as follows: Wind Speed 0.1kph; Wind
Direction 0-255 (corresponding to 0-360 degrees compass heading, North = 0), Temperature 0.1 degrees F
(also Heat Index, Wind Chill, and Dew Point), Rain 0.01 inches, Humidity 0.1%, Barometer 0.1mbar.
2. The first two digits of Wind Direction fields are normally “00”, but if a wind direction calibration number
has been entered, they may be “FF”.
3. Negative values are output in “twos complement” format.
3. A Time value of 0000 is midnight; a Date value of 0000 is January 1.
4. The Leap Year Counter (pre-2004 models) determines whether the year has 365 or 366 days. On these
models, there is no “year” stored in memory (only month and day).
5. Rain Gauges that measure in increments of 0.1mm are fully supported on the ULTIMETER keyboard
display, but please be advised that when 0.1mm increment is selected, the serial data rain output is in
0.1mm increments. Serial data rain output for all other rain gauge selections is reported in increments of
0.01 inches.

Total record length 1208 characters plus Header, Carriage Return, and Line Feed.
MODEM MODE
In Modem Mode, there is no regular serial data output; the weather station responds to commands sent
from the PC or other connected serial device. Modem mode can be used to change/select the output mode,
or to start/stop continuous output, to output a single Complete Record data packet, or to remotely
configure the weather station.
Input of a “greater-than” sign will cause the ULTIMETER 100/800/2000/2100 to enter MODEM MODE. A
command consists of a “greater-than” sign followed by a capital letter (and then, in some cases, followed
by numeric digits – see Command Syntax below).
Note: this mode is not available on pre-2004 ULTIMETER 50/100/500/700/800 (no data input capability).
The command header is >n where n=A-X. The header is immediately followed by a number from zero to
eight digits (all decimal numbers except barometer correction value), and ended by a CARRIAGE RETURN.
The following commands can be sent to the keyboard via the serial port:

ULTIMETER II SERIAL DATA OUTPUT
The following information is provided for those who may wish to write their own programs to use serial
data from the ULTIMETER II weather station (circa early to mid-1990's).
The ULTIMETER II provides serial data output at a nominal 2400 baud rate. This a one way data flow with no
handshaking. The serial output rate averages about 15 records per minute. The serial output is briefly
interrupted at times while the microprocessor attends other functions. If an output record is interrupted, the
balance of the same record will be output following the interruption. Each record starts with an asterisk
