Mount Pleasant Trail Guide

Kayak Trail
Geocaching
The Town has developed a water-based trail
to accommodate kayak enthusiasts. A kayak
launch at the Pickett Bridge Recreation Area
located at the end of Pitt Street starts the
trail, links to the boat landings on Shem
Creek and Remley’s Point, and ends at the
kayak launch at Palmetto Islands County
Park.
Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting
game played throughout the world by
adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices.
The basic idea is to locate hidden containers,
called geocaches, which are often filled with
trinkets and then share your experiences
online. People who enjoy geocaching come
from all age groups and have a strong sense of
community and support for the environment.
The Town of Mount Pleasant currently maintains
four geocaches:
The 15 mile trail leads kayakers through
Cove Inlet, Shem Creek, Charleston Harbor,
and the Wando River.

Travel Bug
A travel bug is a trackable tag that you attach
to an item. Many geocaches contain travel
bugs. You can track the item as geocachers
carry it on their adventures from one cache
another. You can follow its progress online at
geocaching.com. The Town sponsors three
travel bugs:
Mount Pleasant Sweetgrass Basket GeoGoodwill Ambassador
 Town of Mount Pleasant USS Yorktown GeoGoodwill Ambassador
 Town of Mount Pleasant ‘Key to the City’
Geo-Goodwill Ambassador
