Forest Park Loop
Approximately 12 miles with 500
feet of climbing
Description:
Your Trek Travel guides will meet you in the lobby of the Chase Park Plaza Hotel at 10:00 AM on the first day of
the trip. After a 5 minute shuttle, we’ll arrive at the St. Louis Art Museum in Forest Park. We will have a short
tour, followed by a gourmet brunch at Panorama, a restaurant named for its spectacular views of Forest Park.
Then we'll suit up and your guides will fit you to your Trek bicycle to ensure a comfortable ride for the days
ahead. Today we'll take a leisurely spin through St. Louis' beloved Forest Park. This 1300-acre oasis is home to
the St. Louis Zoo, Art and History museums, the Jewel Box, the Muny, The McDonnell Planetarium, and the
World's Fair Pavilion as well as countless statues and monuments. The ride ends at the iconic Chase Park
Plaza. No trip to St. Louis is complete without a visit to the Gateway Arch, so tonight we'll shuttle downtown for a
short walk through Citygarden on our way to the Four Seasons for social hour and dinner. Enjoy a glass of wine
as we gather on the veranda overlooking the magnificent Gateway Arch and city skyline, and then savor the
homemade, gourmet Italian cuisine at Cielo that will fuel you for the days ahead.

St. Charles to Hermann
Approximately 68 miles with 2,200

Description:
Today we will bid farewell to St. Louis and shuttle 40 minutes to St. Charles, Missouri's first capital city. Here, we
will start our journey on the Katy Trail. At 287 miles, this crushed limestone path is America's longest rails-to-trail
bike path. It meanders along the Missouri River and across the entire state. Don't worry, you don't have to ride
the whole thing! Notice how quickly the urban landscape is transformed to tranquil countryside. Our introduction
to Missouri wine country begins at Mount Pleasant Estates in the small town of Augusta. Founded in 1859,
Mount Pleasant is located in the Augusta Appellation, the first American Viticultural Area. Enjoy lunch at the cafe
before we tour the original hand-dug cellars, dating back to 1881, and learn about the old world winemaking
techniques still in use today. Continue by bike or take a ride in the van as we follow the Katy Trail westward.
Take a break for some ice cream and live music on the porch of the Peers Store. This historic trading point has
served as a railway stop, a Missouri River shipping point and a general store for the local farming community
from 1896 until it closed in 2012. Now, thanks to the preservation efforts of the Katy Land Trust, it is a welcome
rest stop for cyclists who ride the Katy Trail. From here, we will continue to the quaint town of Hermann and
settle into our home for the next two nights. Hermann was settled by German immigrants in 1837 and has
worked hard to preserve its culture and heritage. Enjoy a view of town and the Missouri River from your room in
a restored 19th-century wine cottage perched high on the hillside. Cap off this day with a private dinner at the
Tin Mill Restaurant - housed in a re-imagined historic grain elevator.

Bethlehem Valley Farm, where our friends Dan and Connie will be our hosts for lunch. Try wines from their
vineyard as you relax and take in the beauty from the front porch of the 1905 farmhouse. After lunch, we will
make our way back to Hermann either via the trail, the shuttle, or for the die-hard cyclists, the hills. Our final

evening together will begin with a tour of the Hermann Farm, which was home to George Husmann who
emigrated from Germany in 1839 and became the preeminent 19th-century expert on America’s grapes and
wines. Raise a glass as we celebrate preserving the past and connecting it to the present. We'll continue our

Before & After: St. Louis, Missouri
St. Louis is known for the iconic Gateway Arch, completed in 1965 and standing 630 feet tall over downtown St. Louis on the
Mississippi River. A national monument, the Arch commemorates the greatest exploration in American history - Lewis and Clark's
Corps of Discovery Expedition in 1804. You will trace some of their route during this trip! But if the Arch represents the "front porch" of
St. Louis, the city's big, beautiful "backyard" is the Missouri River Valley.
If you have an extra day or two -- or more! -- before or after your trip, there is much to do while in the St. Louis area. You can ride the
entire length of the 287-mile Katy Trail or visit Confluence Point State Park to stand where the two greatest rivers in America meet. If
you want more urban experiences, visit the new Blues Museum, the one-of-a-kind City Museum, or spend time at the world-renowned
Missouri Botanical Garden. Add some detours for award-winning microbreweries or tour the historic Anheuser-Busch Brewery. And
since you'll be visiting in October, you may see some Cardinals post-season action around town! We recommend the following
accommodations for your pre- and post-trip hotel:
Moonrise Hotel
The Moonrise Hotel blends cool modern design and quirky sophistication to create a truly unique boutique hotel experience. The
