Gear Up Alabama
is a great way of helping
students get into a good
college and helping them
get great grades. Gear Up
Alabama is a 7-year grant
program designed to increase the number of students who are prepared to
enter and succeed in college. Several universities,
businesses, and organizations are partners for the
project, which will involve

is one of the schools chosen
to participate in the program.
There are lots of
Gear Up activities scheduled for this school year.
The second week of September, 7th and 8th grade
students participated in two
assemblies where speakers
emphasized the importance of good grades to
be able to go to college.
Changes at GMS
The 2015-2016
school year has changed a
lot! We have a new principal now. Her name is Mrs.
Tanner. She has made lots
of changes and she really
shows pride in our school
and students. We also
have several new teachers
On October 17, there was
also a program for parents
to learn more about saving
money for their child’s education.
The Gear Up program starts for students in
7th grade this school year
and will follow them
through 12th grade. To

Awareness Month
Bullying is the use of strength
or influence to intimidate someone, to
force him or her to do what the bully
wants. Bullies hit people or say mean
things to hurt the person they are bullying. Bullying can happen anywhere,
but the main place for bullying is at
Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast Cancer was first noticed
by the Ancient Egyptians more than
3,500 years ago. In 1990, the pink ribbon began to be used as the international symbol of awareness for breast
cancer. Pink ribbons express moral
support for women with breast cancer.
