ear Friends of the Foundation,
Thank you to all who have been so supportive of the
“Designed To Be Patient Kind”, Capital Campaign
this past year. We had an overwhelming response
of generosity of both financial and volunteer
support from the communities. Committees included
people from several areas of the hospital and communities: including
campaign leaders, honorary members, board members, physicians,
employees, auxiliary, agriculture, women, corporations, families and
local foundations.
I am still in awe that beyond this major project support, we
continue to receive contributions to our on-going projects and special
events. A big thank you goes out to the many people and communities
who have shown their dedication to the Hammond-Henry
Hospital Foundation.

Dear Foundation Friends,
As this newsletter is in print, we are preparing to
occupy our new long-term care living center which was
recently completed on the southeast part of our campus.
This 38-bed facility replaces the two-story skilled and
extended care buildings that were constructed in 1963.
Our open house on June 5 was extremely well attended
with many compliments. Of course, this is only the first step in the
“Designed to be Patient Kind” project. The 48-year old long-term
care building will be recycled to house doctors’ offices, administrative
and financial offices and dialysis. Our “south service building” will be
complete before July, thus allowing for the relocation of support
services. This new building will feature all therapy and rehabilitation
services on the second floor, highlighted by our new aquatic rehab
center. This state-of-the-art facility is funded entirely by one family’s
generous gift to the Foundation.
We have seventeen months before the entire program is completed.
Once we are there, you will notice the impact made throughout the
hospital by the generosity of individuals, families and organizations.
We are so grateful for the support demonstrated not only in this capital
campaign, but through ongoing gifts and support.
Thank you for your support as we strive to make Hammond-Henry
a modern facility equipped to provide compassionate care for our
communities both today and well into the future.

ROLL-OVERS
AND ESTATE TAX RELIEF
EXTENSION OF IRA
ROLL-OVERS TO CHARITIES
Taxpayers age 70 or older will be allowed to make
tax-free distributions to charity from an Individual
Retirement Account (IRA) of up to $100,000 per
taxpayer per tax year in 2011.
ESTATE TAX RELIEF
FOR 2011 AND 2012
•Estates in 2011/2012: Estates in excess of $5 million
(per individual and indexed for inflation after 2011)
will be subject to a top estate tax rate of 35 percent in
2011 and 2012.

•Estates in 2010: The new estate tax rules will also be
retroactive to the beginning of 2010. However, estate
executors will be allowed to elect to have the former
2010 rules (no estate tax and limited carryover basis
of $1.3 million with an additional $3 million for
assets transferred to a surviving spouse) apply to
estates of those who passed away in 2010.
GIFT FOUNDATION FUNDING
•Portability: Starting in 2011, any unused exemption
remaining from the estate of one’s last deceased
spouse may be applied to the surviving spouse’s estate
to be used upon his/her death, provided the second
death occurs before 2013. In other words, the first-to-die
spouse’s exemption is “portable.” The portability of the
exemption requires that an election be made on the
deceased spouse’s estate tax return, whether or not
such a return would otherwise be required.
The HHH Foundation has received grant dollars from
the GIFT (Geneseo Is For Tomorrow) Foundation
for the past seven years. These gifts are awarded
through the Bill & Susan Sherrard Foundation, which
GIFT manages. These grant dollars are given to the
Hammond-Henry Hospital Foundation to help patients
who are financially less fortunate. Funds this year will
go toward the purchase of a wireless microphone
system, a surround sound system and furnishings for
patients in the new long-term care building.

The Hammond-Henry Hospital often hears from patients, family & community members regarding the important role the
hospital has played in their lives. It is a testament to this great hospital’s mission of excellence in patient care and services that
many of you may choose to give something back in the form of a legacy gift. These gifts are very important to our hospital’s
future. Leaving a legacy gift is as simple as using the following language on IRA, insurance policy, or other beneficiary
designation forms; or providing it to your attorney for inclusion in your will or living trust:
