We just started to talk about Earth's Changing Surface and Tectonic Plates. What are the different
directions that plates move that can cause the surface to change? Or... after May 11th you should
ask about the Field Trip to the Rice Center. What did you learn? Where was it? What was it like?
ENGLISH & HISTORY: Research Writing
This week Mrs. Oliver and Mrs. Carmichael have opened the door between their classrooms to
work collaboratively on turning social studies research into a multi-paragraph essay. How has
working together between both rooms been a helpful experience for you? Fill in the blank to one
or both of these sentences:

What fraction (or percent) of your family is male? female? # of family members who drive cars?

For basic math: If we have 3 Fridays left in May, but one of those Fridays we will go to Camp

your life changed, a time you felt peer pressure, or a situation where you had to make a tough
decision. Ask your child if something similar has happen in their life recently.

Next week we will "release" our trout. Ask your child about the trout this year. Where are they?
How long have we had them? What did they look like when we first got them? Why does Mr. L
need to keep the tank covered? Who in your class is the most interested in the trout? How big are
they? When you release them into the wild, what do you think will happen? How many do you
think will survive and grow old enough to reproduce? Do you ever want a fish tank?

Currently in our novel Stargirl, Stargirl was blamed for losing the championship basketball game –
even though she wasn't even on the team. Do you think she was the reason they lost? tell me
about what happened? Have you ever felt like you were blamed for something that was not really
your fault? How did you handle it?

Imagine if our family grew three times larger. How would that be similar to when Rome expanded
into an Empire? Challenges? Benefits? If you were a leader in Rome, would you want to expand
into an Empire?
