Bus provided by Tucker Transportation, 406-563-3085. Michelle Pearson (Teacher/Student Liaison) will be at bus meeting location. Registration and Snacks. 8:30am: Orientation and Icebreaker. Welcome: Jacque Lavelle, Superintendent and Julie Croglio, Chief of Interpretation & Education Grant-Kohrs National Historic Site and Park Staff. 9:30-12:00pm: • • • Grant-Kohrs Ranch Historic Preservation Learning Activities. Activity 1 – Learn the stories of the resource; the group will split into 2 smaller groups and will tour the main ranch house and 2-3 living history programs – rotating about every 15-20 minutes. Activity 2 – Preservation of artifacts; the group will split into two smaller groups, one group touring the museum collection of artifacts the other doing an interactive hands-on activity where the students learn different procedures curatorial staff use to preserve artifacts. Activity 3 – Preservation of Buildings and Landscapes; the group will take a 30-minute wagon ride learning about the importance of preserving cultural landscapes and how they help with the historic ambience of a site. The group will then spend 30 minutes learning about preservation maintenance of buildings and learn about historic methods and tools used. 9:30-10:30am: Grant-Activity 1: Stories Kohrs-Activity 2: Artifacts Warren-Activity 3: Buildings and Landscapes 10:40-11:40am: Grant-Activity 2: Artifacts Kohrs-Activity 3: Buildings and Landscapes Warren-Activity 1: Stories 11:45-12:30pm: Picnic Lunch-at Dairy Barn. Activity ties in with the preservation of historic resources. • Activity 2 – Log peeling. • Activity 3 – Developing suggestions for app or cell phone tour type program; students will be paired up and given some potential “stories” that the park feels should be told along with maps and potential locations. The students will determine which themes/stories they connect with more or they feel others will connect with and document where they feel those stories should be told, what would be the best method to tell them and how they feel would be the best way to engage people.
