All ninth through twelfth grade art students at Wausau West take Art Foundations as a first art course. This year-long (two consecutive semesters) multi-media art course has been developed as an introduction to drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, and design. First semester students will explore various two-dimensional and three-dimensional Medias and second semester, devote their time to developing their own unique style in a multi-media format. After successfully completing this course, students may choose semester courses in Painting, Drawing, Ceramics and Sculpture. The Art Foundations curriculum is an exploration of drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and design in both two and three dimensional formats. Students will incorporate the Elements of Art, Principles of Design and study of Art History into their artwork. Emphasis is on initial techniques in various media and exploration of students own unique style in art! PAINTING I Course: 112081/212081 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 10-12 Prereq: Art Foundations Fee: $11.00/sem. This is a semester course that explores various painting media including watercolor and acrylic. Students will build upon their introduction to painting from Art Foundations. Emphasis is on development of painting techniques that are unique to the student’s style. Art History, Elements of Art and Principles of Design continue to guide students as they are introduced to new and exciting painting techniques. *This course may be taken only one semester. PAINTING II Course: 112361/212361 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 10-12 Prereq: Painting I Fee: $11.00/sem. This is a semester course offered to art students who have successfully completed Painting I. In this course, advanced watercolor and acrylic techniques are incorporated into both twodimensional and three-dimensional formats. Students will be constructing their own canvases and exploring multi-media options in their paintings. Introduction to Portfolio Development for the college-bound artist will be initiated in this course. *This course may be taken only one semester. DRAWING I Course: 112101/212101 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 10-12 Prereq: Art Foundations Fee: $11.00/sem. This is a semester course that explores drawing from realism to abstraction. Students will build upon their introduction to drawing techniques from Art Foundations. Emphasis will be on developing their own drawing style using ebony pencils, charcoal, woodless graphite, India and colored inks, pastels and oil pastels. Continued study in Art History, Elements of Art and Principles of Design will be incorporated into this course. *This course may be taken only one semester. ART ART FOUNDATIONS Course: 112131/212131 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 10-12 Prereq: Drawing I Fee: $11.00/sem. This is a semester course offered to art students who have successfully completed Drawing I. In-depth drawing techniques will be explored with emphasis on compositions that incorporate advanced gradation, patterning and visual texture. Students will continue development of their own unique drawing style. Introduction to Portfolio Development for the college-bound artist will be included in this course. *This course may be taken only one semester. SCULPTURE I Course: 112121/212121 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 10-12 Prereq: Art Foundations Fee: $11.00/sem. This is a semester course that is designed for the student who wants to wants to explore art in three-dimensions. Plaster, mosaics, wire, clay and glass are some of the media that students will incorporate in their sculptures. Students will learn and apply the following basic sculpting techniques: additive, subtractive, casting, carving and construction. *This course may be taken only one semester. SCULPTURE II Course: 112541/212541 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 10-12 Prereq: Sculpture I Fee: $11.00/sem. This is a semester course offered to students who have successfully completed Sculpture I. Students will further explore sculpture media and techniques. This is a semester course designed for the students who want to be challenged by a pliable three-dimensional medium. . . clay. CERAMICS II Course: 112421/212421 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 10-12 Prereq: Ceramics I Fee: $15.00/sem. This is a semester course offered to art students who have successfully completed Ceramics I. It was designed for the student who would like to explore advanced construction and glazing techniques. Students will also gain experience with kiln firing. Introduction to Portfolio Development for the collegebound artist will be initiated in this course. *This course may be taken only one semester. ART DRAWING II Course: 112041/212041 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester Year Taken: 12 Prereq: Six semesters of Art and Art Faculty Approval Fee: $11.00/sem. Art Fellows I students explore design and creativity by focusing on themes and mediums. This class offers advanced individualized instruction as the teacher guides the students through studio projects and Art Intelligence. All students are expected to participate in studio assignments, exhibit in a final art show, and attend a minimum of 2 local art events per semester. Note: Instructor signature required to take this course. ART FELLOWS II Course 112511/212511 Credit: .50/sem Length: Semester I or II Year Taken: 12 Prereq: Art Fellows I and Art Faculty Approval Fee: $11.00/sem. Art Fellows II students will continue to explore design and creativity by focusing on themes and mediums. This class offers advanced individualized instruction as the teacher guides the students through studio projects and Art Intelligence. All students are expected to keep a progressive journal, participate in studio assignments, exhibit in a final art show, and attend a minimum of 2 local art events per semester.
