Connecting with Parents Primary 3 January / February Classwork This leaflet outlines what we will be covering in January / February in Numeracy and Literacy and through the theme of Our School so that home learning can be organised to support your child if you wish. Please Note: - Not all aspects of each subject are in- cluded in this document and all children work at different levels of ability. Numeracy Number – explore the composition of numbers to 100 as tens and units; count from a given number forwards and backwards in 1,2,5 and 10 to 100 using a 100 square Data Handling – represent in a Venn diagram the results of sorting for 2 criteria Shape & Space – recognise and use the mathematical names for 3D shapes; use a variety of sorting diagrams to sort and group 3D shapes Measure— estimate and compare weights in relation to 1kg Literacy Reading– encourage prediction; spell sight words; identify compound words, read for meaning; identify direct speech. Writing – write about a person who works in school; ; write a brief description of their school,classroom, teacher Sounds— study words containing the following sounds: th, ng, oa, ee, oo, ay Children will be sent home their group reading book and a class library book and we encourage you to read with your child when possible. World Around Us As our topic is Our School we will look at the following areas: explore and sort a range of materials in the classroom; explore classroom objects which use electricity and give out light; Co -ordinates grid; explore the location of our school; explore and discuss different means of travel to school; study and discuss a plan of the school; compare and contrast their own experiences of school to their parents and grandparents; compare and contrast materials used today and long ago in schools; compare uniforms today to those in Victorian times Personal Development and Mutual Understanding PDMU this term, will involve the pupils looking at their own cultural heritage, its traditions and celebrations; being aware of what influences their own views, feelings and behaviour at home; recognising the interdependence of members in the school community; understanding how and why rules are made in the class, in the playground and at school; identifying what conflicts may arise at school, and explore ways in which it could be lessened, avoided or resolved. Other Information Early Morning Club begins at 8am. Homework is completed daily and will be collected by the class teacher the following morning Please empty school bags on a daily basis and ensure your child has everything with them which they will need for the school day e.g. sharpened pencils, rubber, sharpener, colouring pencils, books. Dinners are £2.55. If possible please send an envelope with dinner money for the week and list the days your child requires a hot meal or Lunch Box Afternoon Parent/Teacher Interviews Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th February School will finish on Friday 10th February at 12:15pm.
