7th Grade Social Studies Name: Mr. Maicki Week 5-6: Zombie Geography Unit: Mental Mapping and Physical Characteristics Students learn about mental maps and create a mental map (drawn from memory) of their local neighborhood, showing where they would try to get supplies, and where they would avoid. They also learn skills to practice mental mapping the world and why having a quality mental map is important. The main goal for this project is for students to understand the physical characteristics of locations. Along the way they learn how these characteristics are formed or influenced as well as how they affect our perceptions. Students also learn about human-environment interaction. Essential Questions: How do geographic thinkers use mental maps to inform their thinking? How does our physical environment influence our lives or survival?
