46th Annual Dick Allen Lansing
To Mackinaw Bicycle Tour
August 31 – September 4, 2016
NEW THIS YEAR
• 5 UP and 5 East Routes will have optional ending
points of St. Ignace or Rudyard
What Is DALMAC®?
The Dick Allen Lansing to MACkinaw Bicycle Tour is
Michigan’s annual, fully-supported, epic end-of-summer
bicycle camping tour. Four routes wind northward in four or
five days through Michigan’s countryside and quaint small
towns, from East Lansing to up north destinations, ending
in Mackinaw City, St. Ignace, or Rudyard. Each route varies
in distance providing just the right challenge for all cyclists
whether beginner or experienced, relaxed paced or speedy.
DALMAC is one of the oldest all-volunteer-run tours in
the United States, celebrating 46 years of excellence, thus
DALMAC is one of the lowest cost tours in the nation.
DALMAC® is about bicycling! DALMAC® is about sharing
the roads! DALMAC® originated in 1971 when former State
Representative Dick Allen challenged his colleagues and
constituents with a ‘ride all the way to the bridge’ to prove
that bikes and cars could share Michigan roads safely. The
objectives of DALMAC® are to develop an awareness of
bicyclists and their needs among the citizens of Michigan,
to promote bicycling as a healthy means of transportation
and recreation, and to encourage wider use of bicycles.
DALMAC® is staffed by volunteers of the Tri-County
Bicycle Association (TCBA). If interested in volunteering,
send an email to: [email protected]
Who Can Ride?
DALMAC® is open to any capable and interested cyclist on
a non-motorized bicycle. Riders under the age of 18 must
be accompanied by their parent or responsible adult who
must ride with them.
Preparing For
DALMAC®
For your enjoyment, you and your bicycle should be in good
condition. You should be able to make your own minor
repairs. Pace yourself to allow for food and rest stops and to
arrive at each day’s destination for dinner by 5:00 p.m. To
help you achieve this pace, we have developed suggested
advance guidelines that you will find in your map booklet.
Times are marked and indicate the minimum distances that
should be covered by the times listed.
2
For Your Safety

• No headphone devices are allowed while riding

scheduled to cross the bridge must make provisions for their
own transportation to the bridge and back as indicated on page

one of the best rides in Michigan when the
Tri-County Bicycle Association’s (TCBA) 37th
Annual T-Shirt Ride returns to Grand Ledge.
The 2016 T-Shirt Ride – “The Ledge and
Beyond” is one you don’t want to miss.
The 2016 T-Shirt ride begins at the Grand Ledge High School
(GLHS). This year’s event will include a 5K (~3 miles)
“in-town” route option for families and/or riders who are
not quite ready for the longer rides. Other riders will have
choices of the traditional route distances of 25K (~17 miles),
50K (~34 miles), 100K (~65 miles), and a 45K (~30 miles)
gravel road route with a new Tough Biker trail loop option.
Don’t forget to bring a mountain bike or cross bike if you
elect to ride the gravel. A mountain bike is recommended for
the challenging 1-mile off road optional Tough Biker loop. All
routes start together and split off at different mileage points to
form its particular loop. Routes use rural western Eaton County
roads. Riders who chose the 100K or the 45K gravel road ride
will also venture into eastern Barry and southern Ionia and
Clinton Counties. Riders on the 100K route will pass through
Vermontville, Woodland and Lake Odessa.
Of course, along with all this exercise comes lots of great food.
The GLHS Food Service will be serving lunch at the school for
riders of the 25K, 50K, 100K routes, 45K gravel road route,
and those riders of the 5K “in-town” route who have paid as a
regular registrant. All routes will pass through at least one rest
stop with volunteers serving assorted fruits, freshly baked
cookies, and beverages.
And a new collectable 2016 “The Ledge and Beyond” T-Shirt
Ride shirt is available to purchase with your pre-registration.

to discuss upcoming rides and events, and to handle other
association affairs.
Members receive a monthly newsletter to keep them up-todate on happenings within the club and information about
riding opportunities outside of the mid-Michigan area. The
club sponsors a regularly updated rideline (TUBES-00/517882-3700) announcing rides not listed in the club newsletter
(www.biketcba.org). Members may also register to receive
weekly emails of unlisted rides. Come join us in the friendship, fun, and health that are the essence of bicycling!
