Student Government Association 2015–2016 Executive Branch Position Descriptions Thank you for your interest in being a member of the Student Government Association Executive Branch for the 2015–2016 Academic Year. Being a member of the Executive Branch offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on students and the university as a whole. Student Government is committed to listening, supporting, and advancing the student body and the University of Kentucky. Serving on the Student Government Executive Team requires a significant commitment. Some positions will manage a budget, others will work with top administrators and community leaders, many will have a multitude of responsibilities, and will be representing the student body as we work to accomplish the various aims of Student Government throughout the year. The Executive Branch of SGA is composed of the Executive Cabinet (President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and Directors) and the Executive Team (Coordinators). A flow chart of the Executive Branch can be found on page 2 of this document. The President and Vice President will appoint the members of the Executive Cabinet and work alongside these Directors to select their Coordinators. Members of the Executive Cabinet will be required to attend a weekly meeting with the President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, and will be required to keep weekly office hours. Each member of the Executive Cabinet is expected to work up to 10 hours per week during the fall 2015 and spring 2016 semesters. Many Executive Cabinet positions will be required to work throughout the summer, before classes start in August. They work closely with the President, Vice President, Senate President, and Executive Cabinet, in assuring the goals of Student Government are met. Responsibilities: Produce, update, and upkeep the Student Government Budget in conjunction with the President, Vice President and Chief of Staff Manage all Student Government Accounts Assist the Appropriations and Revenue Committee in the execution of their mission Work alongside the Student Government Office Manager to coordinate expenditures. The goal of Government Relations is to expand the student voice beyond the university setting and effect policy changes in the interest of students. Responsibilities Advise the President in government-related issues and discussions. Lead lobbying efforts at the federal, state, and local level. Oversee relationships within the offices of legislators and other government officials. Manage the WIG internship program. Maintain and improve the Student Internship Program Endowment Develop civic engagement opportunities for students (e.g. voter registration drives, political lectures, forums, debates, etc.) Serve as contact for TurboVote in conjunction with SGA Advisor Coordinate trips to Washington DC and Frankfort to meet with legislators. SGA Advisor – Logistics, general questions, campus partners, etc. External Eric King – Office of Federal Relations Steve Byars – Assistant Vice President for Government Relations 6 Job Title: Director of Inclusion and Outreach Reports to: President; Chief of Staff Oversees: Diversity Coordinator, Athletics Coordinator, Housing Coordinator, Dining Coordinator, & Student Health Coordinator General Description The Director of Inclusion and Outreach will maintain the Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce, while working to create a welcoming and inclusive environment in Student Government. Furthermore they will reach out to other campus parties in order to ascertain ways that Student Government can assist in the execution of their programs and initiatives. Responsibilities Ensure the continuation and success of the Diversity and Inclusion Taskforce. Meet regularly with Coordinators to discuss and develop initiatives and assist them with necessary contacts for task completion. Work with members of the administration to further the goals of inclusion and diversity on campus and in our campus community Meet with senators to discuss meetings with their organizations Be knowledgeable about current issues facing students and the general student opinion on each issue. They can serve in any number of roles based on the current needs of the organization, making it one of the most versatile positions in the Cabinet. Responsibilities Assist in overseeing the operations of the Executive Branch. Oversee evaluations of certain events and programs. Keep in contact with campus appointments and report developments to rest of the executive branch. Complete miscellaneous tasks as assigned. Assist Directors at times when focus is on their programs or events. Ensure that the Executive Branch is running in an organized manner. Be generally knowledgeable about all aspects of the Executive Branch. Responsible for conducting SGA’s all-student survey and the data analysis report. David Wright – Guidance for evaluations. 12 Job Title: Social Media Coordinator Reports to: Director of Communications Oversees: Social Media General Description The Social Media Coordinator is responsible for managing all Student Government social media accounts. They work closely with the Director of Communications and the Chief of Staff to ensure that students are aware of happenings and opportunities within SGA. Job Title: Website Coordinator Reports to: Director of Communications Oversees: Website Maintenance General Description The Website Coordinator is responsible for working with our sponsoring company to ensure a transparent and updated website. This position is responsible for maintaining and updating the website, posts, and pages as needed. Job Title: Promotions Coordinator Reports to: Director of Marketing Oversees: Promotional Orders and Distribution General Description The Promotions Coordinator is responsible for creating new and innovative ways to market Student Government and its programs. This position will work closely with the Director of Marketing and the rest of the Executive Cabinet members to create, purchase, and distribute promotional items for programs and events. Job Title: TallyCats Coordinator Reports to: Director of Marketing Oversees: TallyCats Incentives Program General Description The TallyCats Coordinator is responsible for creating incentives for student involvement. This position will help to schedule TallyCats sponsored events and plan the end of the semester banquet. Job Title: Diversity Coordinator Reports to: Director of Inclusion and Outreach Oversees: Underrepresented Student Groups General Description The Diversity Coordinator works closely with the Director of Inclusion and Outreach to ensure underrepresented student groups have their voices heard. The two will identify these target groups and reach out to them in order to see how Student Government can better serve them. 13 Job Title: Athletics Coordinator Reports to: Director of Inclusion and Outreach Oversees: Partnerships with UK Athletics General Description The Athletics Coordinator serves as a liaison between Student Government and UK Athletics. Their work will range from collaboration on events like the All-Student Tailgate to speaking with the athletics department in order to voice student’s opinions. This position will also seek to foster an atmosphere of inclusion for student athletes. Job Title: Housing Coordinator Reports to: Director of Inclusion and Outreach Oversees: Residence Life and Off-Campus Housing General Description The Housing Coordinator is responsible for working with Lexington housing options to provide educated and informed tools to assist UK Students in making decisions about housing. They will work to develop the Off-Campus Renter’s Guide and Housing Fair. They will also be the liaison between UK Residence Life and SGA. Job Title: Dining Coordinator Reports to: Director of Inclusion and Outreach Oversees: UK—Aramark Relationship General Description The Dining Coordinator is responsible for compiling information that relates to student satisfaction with current dining policies. They will then work with the administration to develop a strategic plan for addressing and alleviating concerns with UK Dining. Job Title: Student Health and Wellness Coordinators Reports to: Director of Inclusion and Outreach Oversees: Healthy Living Initiatives and Partnerships General Description The Student Health and Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that all UK students have a holistic, healthy college experience. They will work closely with the UK Counseling Center and UK Campus Recreation to expand services available to students. Job Title: Cats Cab Coordinator Reports to: Director of Campus Safety Oversees: Data Entry and Analysis General Description The Cats Cab Coordinator gathers weekly data from generated reports and analyzes them to develop meaningful information from weekend trips. This position will create weekly data reports for the Director of Campus Safety. This person will work with the Director of Campus Safety and Bluegrass Cabs on the administrative aspects of the program. 14 Job Title: LiveSafe Coordinator Reports to: Director of Campus Safety Oversees: Campus LiveSafe Programming and Growth General Description The LiveSafe Coordinator will be responsible for maintaining the newly implemented safety application and working alongside the Director of Campus Safety to assure success of the program. They will work alongside the Director of Marketing to develop a plan to increase student awareness, download, and usage rates. Job Title: Events Coordinator Reports to: Director of Events Oversees: Internal Event Planning General Description The Events Coordinator will be responsible for assisting the Director of Events. This position will be responsible for assisting all Executive Branch members in the planning of events pertinent to their position. Job Title: Federal Government Coordinator Reports to: Director of Government Relations Oversees: UKSGA Partnerships with Federal Government General Description The Federal Government Coordinator will be responsible for helping to manage all D.C. based internships. This position will develop new recruiting measures to inform UK Students about these opportunities. The Federal Government Coordinator will also assist in planning visits to Washington with the Executive Cabinet. Job Title: State Government Coordinator Reports to: Director of Government Relations Oversees: UKSGA Partnerships with State Government General Description The State Government Coordinator will be responsible for helping to manage all Frankfort based internships. This position will develop new recruiting measures to inform UK Students about these opportunities. The State Government Coordinator will also assist in planning the Commonwealth Leadership Reception with the Director of Events. Job Title: Town & Gown Coordinator Reports to: Director of Government Relations Oversees: UKSGA Partnerships with Lexington Community General Description The Town & Gown Coordinator will be responsible for helping to create a local internship within the Mayor’s office. This position will seek out new opportunities for engaging with the local community. They will also work to ensure that graduates and current students remain an integral part of the Lexington community. 15
