Topic 3 Content Focus
Topics 3 and 4 focus on using known facts and properties of multiplication to learn the multiplication facts with factors of
3, 4, 6, 7, and 8, and using the relationship between multiplication and division to learn division facts.
Multiplication Facts
Break Apart a Fact into Smaller Facts
Associative and Commutative Properties

Program Materials
To fully develop the mathematical concepts in this unit, the suggested pacing has been extended. This extended time
period includes assessments, which can be used as evidence for the district Standards-Based Report Card. The
components of each lesson support the daily use of the MPS instructional design (LESA) with multiple opportunities to
explore and summarize.
The components of each lesson are outlined below, with recommendations for teachers to support meaningful learning
for students and maximize instructional time. As always, teachers should make instructional decisions based on
students’ needs and professional judgement.
