MEMORANDUM
TO:
Marc Dashield, Princeton Administrator
FROM:
Deanna Stockton, P.E., Assistant Engineer
DATE:
November 14, 2014
SUBJECT:
Resolution of Support - Establishment of a 40 MPH Speed Limit and a 25 MPH
School Speed Zone on a Portion of County Route 604 (Rosedale Road)
Attached herewith please find a resolution providing for the above referenced matter.
George Fallet, P.E., Mercer County Traffic Engineer, has advised Princeton that the ordinanced
speed limit for County Route 604 must be reduced from 45 miles per hour (MPH) to 40 MPH
due to the curvature of the roadway in the area of the new Stony Brook Bridge. The 40 MPH
speed zone would be established from Preservation Place, the approximate location where the
first set of school flashers is located, to a point 900 feet west of General Johnson Drive. In
addition, a provision would be incorporated in Mercer County Code to establish a School Speed
Limit of 25 MPH in this same location when the lights are flashing.
The Princeton Traffic Safety Committee has considered this matter and recommends the
establishment of these ordinance provisions as well.
In consideration of the above it is recommended that the Princeton Council consider approving
the attached resolution requesting Mercer County to update their speed limit ordinance for
County Route 604 (Rosedale Road) in the municipality of Princeton.
