S U M M E R 2 0 1 4 – W E E K 7 Yellow Lemon Drops The Yellow Lemon Drops have been celebrating the much-anticipated superhero week to the fullest! On Monday, we created a project like never before in art class… We each picked a colored, sandy powder, then sprinkled it on a piece of wet paper to create a beautifully textured collage. We loved playing with the different textures and picking our favorite colors. We also painted on aluminum foil with neon paint! The bright colors were so fun to mix together; we wondered if they would glow in the dark too… Hopefully you can test our theory at home!? No super girl or super boy is complete without his or her trusty shield and mask, so on Wednesday after our Dance Explosion class, we made superhero props! We painted our shields using the very powerful colors of, purple, red, blue, green and yellow. You may have seen us wearing our superhero masks at dismissal, because the campers loved making and wearing them! On Friday, we were so excited for water play ~ the campers had been asking about it all week! We had so much fun riding the tricycles through the sprinkler and zooming down the slippery slides in our wet swimsuits. It is easily our favorite day of the week! It is hard to believe next week is our last week of camp! Next week, we’ll be sure to celebrate all the good friends and happy memories we have made this summer. 2 0 1 4 L A T I N The PURPLE PIXIE POST THIS WEEK IN LATIN SUMMER DAY CAMP The Purple Pixies had many fun-filled activities this week, which included a superhero training session with the Green Gummy Bears! The Purple Pixie Superheroes experienced what it was like to be a real superhero by practicing running super fast in teams, jumping super high and even using their super powers around the gymnasium! On Tuesday, the superheroes made a magic painting in art class with Miss. Cindy. First, we painted our construction paper with water, and then we splashed on magic sprinkle paint! On Wednesday, the Purple Pixie Superheroes made a super marshmallow with the Green Gummy Bears! It was exciting to mix in mini graham crackers and chocolate chips too! On Thursday, campers made a special trip to the Adler Planetarium! The Purple Pixies especially loved the Moon Room and the Rock Center. We ended the week, with water play on the roof top on Friday! It’s always one of our favorite activities, because we get to jump in the sprinkler! Next Week: It is hard to believe next week is our last week of camp! Next week, we will be traveling to the Farm at the Zoo at Lincoln Park Zoo, while also celebrating all the memories we have made this summer. SESSION 2 WEEK 3 GREEN GUMMY GAZETTE Faster than lightning, more powerful than a sonic boom, here come the Green Gummy Bears! We had a wonderful week talking about superheroes and how we can learn from their adventures! On Monday, the campers experimented with some new art media: powdered tempera paint on wet paper and acrylic paint on tinfoil. Back in the classroom, we used watercolor paints to decode secret superhero messages! The Green Gummy Bears showed up in their finest hero and fantasy attire on Tuesday! The campers enjoyed sharing their costumes with their friends and taking fabulous “flying” photographs! Later, we were moved and grooved in the gym during Dance Explosion! On Wednesday, we pumped up our little heroes with superhero training games! The campers enjoyed relay races and physical challenges in the gym. During our special Wednesday addition of Munchies and Crunchies, campers added and stirred ingredients for delicious s’mores balls! The half-day campers blasted off to the Adler Planetarium on Thursday for a fun-filled field trip. Campers explored Planet X in the Planet Explorers hands-on exhibit. We were able to learn about the life of an astronaut, rocket ships and space exploration tools. The Green Gummy Bears finished the week with water play on the rooftop! Back in our classroom, we created marbled designs on paper plates using shaving cream and food coloring. It is hard to believe camp is almost over! We look forward to finishing off Session 2 with a bang! --Kate and Affy WEEK 7: Summer at Latin - Blue Bubble Gums This week our Blue Bubble Gums turned into superheroes, flying around Latin Camp and having a blast! On Monday, we brought the campers out to the park to play “Superhero Games.” We jumped in hula-hoops, ran around cones, and threw balls to complete a fun obstacle course. We were also able to bring out a giant parachute to play under, which we ended up having story time on top of at the end of the day! On Tuesday, the Blue Bubble Gums painted on aluminum foil and created fantastic artworks out of red, green, and yellow powder paint with Ms. Cindy. We also played in the movement room of the JK Etc. classroom — where there is a small climbing wall, bouncy balls, and mini-bridges. At the end of the day, we made masks to hide our superhero identities. Wednesday, the campers really enjoyed dancing the “sillies” out with Ms. Kelly. Afterward, we created superhero shields and played super soccer in the park. Thursday’s field trip was a huge success. The Blue Bubble Gums blasted off into outer space to explore our solar system and play in the infamous Planet Explorers room at the Adler Planetarium. :) On Friday, the campers were able to end the week with our favorite activity…WATER PLAY! It was a great way to end this exciting week. We only have one week left of camp, but we know it will be one of the best yet. We plan on sending campers home with all of their extra clothes and art projects throughout the week, so be on the lookout for those items! Thank you for an amazing three weeks of camp. We are very lucky to have such supportive families as part of our Blue Bubble Gum team!
