In today's world, our children are having a harder and harder time growing up--parenting is harder, as if you hadn't noticed. What do we do? How do we help our children/teens? What I have noticed is that some kids are not learning how to talk to someone face-to-face. Some seem to be not gaining communication skills –the art of talking and relating which means their relationships will suffer. I once saw two teens sitting next to each other texting each other rather than talking! Our kids are plugged in too much. So one of the first things we do when kids come to the working farm is to “unplug” them. That is, we do not allow any electronics here –no video games of any kind, music anything’s, radios, etc. Would you believe that they go into withdrawal (actually adults do too)? The reason we do this is because our kids are “plugged in” too much. They have things in their ears and in their hands. We have to give them time to be unplugged and get to know themselves, others and nature. DONATIONS NEEDED One of the skills learned in childhood/adolescence is how to communicate. It has to be learned to have healthy relationships. This all said; here's what I suggest. Limit the time they can be “plugged-in” to anything – phones, computers, etc. Talk with them (they do listen even if it seems they don't). Give them creative things to do – reading, art, building something, learning a new skill, time with you, etc. Time with you is vital to their growth. If Marie Did it, So Can I The Farm Office 623 E.
