There of course were a few bumps and bruises, but overall we all came back in one piece. It was the most beautiful day!! Thank you to all the parents who attended. Gerow Hello everyone! I can’t believe it is already February 2nd. The year is flying by! Over the last couple weeks we have been learning about penguins. We watched a few videos and read some books on these interesting animals. We even compared the height of an Emperor Penguin to our height. It turns out the Kindergartens are almost the same height! Over the next two weeks we are going to be doing a Valentine Unit. Our Valentine Day’s party is going to be taking place on Friday, February 13th. I will be sending an e-mail out this week about snacks for the party. Have a great week! Miss Gerow Grade 1/2…Mrs. Sansom Well it was sunny yesterday so we assume the groundhog saw his shadow and we are in for six more weeks of winter. We have started a Measurement unit in Math where the students will be busy with lots of hands on activities. We have wrapped up our Social Studies unit and the class is excited to start our new Science unit of “Growth and Changes in Animals”. The classroom library will be filled with fiction and non-fiction animal books for the students to read. February 13th is a big day in our class as we are celebrating the 100th day of school, Valentine’s Day as well as it being Mikayla’s 8th birthday. Not sure how we got here already! February has only 1 Monday that we are in school. The others are inservices and Louis Riel Day. We will celebrate Valentine's Day on February 13th. Please help students to find something red or pink to wear that day. At 2:30 we will do some in class activities and exchange cards. We have 13 students in our class: Max, Ozy, Kai, Ayanaquinn, Emily Gabrielle, Emily Griffiths, Dylan, Hudson, Quentin, Zach, Ava, Meghan, Addison. If parents would like to send some healthy snacks in that day feel free. In Science, we have been having lots of fun investigating the characteristics of different liquids. Students have predicted and tested the solubility of sugar in cold H2O, hot H2O, rubbing alcohol and vegetable oil. They have also checked different materials ability to absorb H2O. This week we will learn about safety with liquids and solids. Have a great week. Jennifer Workman The Grade 2/3 class had a little treat last week. They were invited to listen as the Grade 4/5 class played their Recorders. They did a fantastic job!! Grade 4/5 I hope everyone had a great weekend. We would like to thank the parents for the hot lunch last Friday, and also thank all those that came along on the ski trip. It was a lot of fun, and the weather was fantastic. I sent a letter home last week asking for your consent to have your child take part in our upcoming health classes on substance use and abuse. I would like those back ASAP. If you have any questions please give me a call. I also sent home a permission slip for the Knights of Columbus Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest. This also needs to be returned for your child to take part. Around the Classroom 6 Math: they are starting a new unit on identifying/drawing/measuring angles using a protractor 7 Math: will be using their graphing and geometry skills to do reflections, rotations and translations of shapes on graphs. 8 Math: have their final test today on Pythagorean and will begin their next unit on making and identifying objects from 3D nets and finding the surface area of rectangular prisms Science: wrapping up our unit on Diversity of Living Things by looking at plants, fungi, protists and monerans. French: working on their final projects, designing a dream house that includes a model, oral presentation and a written portion. Then will be moving onto our next unit Les Restaurants. PE/Health: enjoying the last 2 weeks of basketball and handball. Working on designing Vision Boards for future dreams. Have a great February! ELA- We will be working away at both our anything projects and our Lit circle assignments. See more details on the Lit circle project in the letter sent home today. Students will be booking their presentation dates for specific times over the next two weeks. Word work tests were to be done last week and those who did not complete them will be doing them today. SS- We are working on small research projects on notable individuals during the Northwest rebellion. Students will finish that research today and present to the class on Thursday. We will be doing some review of this chapter and looking to do a quiz next week on Thursday or Friday. Art- Art and Band begin this Wednesday. Band students will leave at 11:00 on Wednesday and on Friday. They will return to the school by 12:30... Art students will have art from 11:00 to 11:55.
