Courage Skit
(Interviewer comes on stage holding a “microphone”.)
Interviewer:

here, doing man
interviews for the Lay Jeno Television Show.
on
the
street
(A Cub Scout comes on stage,
curiously looking around.
Interviewer walks over and speaks to him.)
Interviewer:
Pardon me, sir, would you answer a few questions for the Lay Jeno
Television Show?
Show? We need your valuable opinion. (Holds mike in
front of the Cub Scout.)
Cub Scout:
Sure!
Interviewer:
Please speak right into the mike and look at the camera. (points at
imaginary camera.)
Cub Scout:
Okay.
Interviewer:
It has been said that “True courage is not the absence of fear—but the
willingness to proceed in spite of it.” Do you agree with that?
Cub Scout:
I guess.
Interviewer:
It is not always easy to stand up for the things that you believe are
right, especially if others are telling you to do the opposite. Do you
think that boys of your age need courage now more than ever?
Cub Scout:
Maybe.
Interviewer:
Do you think it takes courage to stick up for another person who is
being teased or bullied?
Cub Scout:
Yes.
Interviewer:
I hear that there is a lot of pressure on kids your age to join a gang,
but gang members seem to do bad things and always be in trouble.
Does it take courage to stand alone when others are joining gangs?

Cub Scout:
Yeah.
Interviewer:
What would you say if someone were to pressure you to take drugs?
Or drink a beer? Or how about smoking?
Cub Scout:
No way!
Interviewer:
Would that take courage?
Cub Scout:
For sure!
Interviewer:
If someone would try to get you to cheat or tell a lie would you do it?
What if the person were a very popular kid?
Cub Scout:
I would do the right thing anyway.
Interviewer:
That would take a lot of courage. It is hard to go against the crowd.
Cub Scout:
Sure is!
Interviewer:
Have you ever noticed a turtle? He can only get someplace when he
sticks his neck out. We need to be willing to stick up for our values,
no matter what.
Cub Scout:
Yeah!
Interviewer:
Well, thank you for your input. Our viewers of the Lay Jeno
Television Show will learn a lot from your valuable contributions to
this interview.
Cub Scout:
(Shrugs his shoulders and walks off.)
Interviewer:
Well that’s a wrap! We know that all of you viewers have learned a
great deal from this riveting interview with our man on the street.

Courage Ceremony
1.
One of the core values of Cub Scouting is courage. True courage is not the
absence of fear—but the willingness to go ahead in spite of it. Here are some
things that famous people had to say about courage.

Gandhi said: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Andrew Jackson said: “One man with courage makes a majority.”

James Bryant Conant said: “Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he
sticks his neck out.”

stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of
challenge and controversy.”

Fire Engine: Divide the group into four sections:
(1) Rings the bell fast, DING;
(2) Honks the horn, HONK, HONK, HONK;
(3) Sounds the siren, Rrrr, Rrrr, Rrrr;
(4) Clangs the clanger, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG.
Have all four groups do their parts together.

One scout walks out and one hides with the "board".
The first scout acts like he is calling the "Star Trek" ship with the flip walky talky
and says "Beam me a board! Scottie!"
Then the second scout tosses the board onto stage and the first Scout says
"Thank you"
The first person of the team comes on stage crying.
The next person comes out, asks the first one what's the matter and the first one
whispers in his ear. Then they both start crying, long and loud.
Several others come out on stage, one at a time and repeat the same action.
When everyone is on stage, crying, moaning, howling, sniffing and so on the last
person comes out and asks aloud: "Why is everyone crying?"
They all answer in unison: "Because we haven't got a skit!"
The first person of the team comes on stage crying.
The next person comes out, asks the first one what's the matter and the first one
whispers in his ear. Then they both start crying, long and loud.
Several others come out on stage, one at a time and repeat the same action.
