Marge’s sisters Patty and Selma Bouvier By Ira Pirogova The cartoon “The Simpsons” began in 1989. It is popular all over the world because “The Simpsons” makes fun of the stereotypes, in particular - “average American” lifestyle, shows the world’s cultures in general and is not afraid to address such slippery issues such as politics and religion. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie are main characters. Minor characters include Flanders Family, Krusty, Mr. Burns, Patty and Selma Bouvier, Waylon Smithers and etc. I’d like to write about Marge’s sisters Patty and Selma. I like these persons because they are strange, sometimes funny and I like to watch how they make jokes and gossip about Homer. Patty and Selma Bouvier are family members. Selma is two minutes older. They have a similar look, but have little notable differences. They have difference between hair: Selma has parted in the middle and Patty has an afro, similarly difference between dresses: Patty wears a pink dress and pink shoes while Selma wears a blue dress and blue shoes and difference between earrings: Patty wears orange or blue triangular earrings while Selma wears purple or orange circular earrings. Relationship between sisters seems to have improved over the years. As adults, the Bouvier twins have a friendly relationship with their sister Marge Simpson and seem very protective of her and thus frequently visit the Simpsons. Patty and Selma look similar but have differents attitude to life. Selma’s opinion on the expense of relations is very different from those of Patty. Selma has actively tried finding a husband, having been married five times. Unable to find companionship in a husband, Selma has also sought to have children. While Patty has chosen a life of celibacy. Patty’s and Selma’s relations with family members are not so easy but similar. They seem relatively fond of their niece Lisa and nephew Bart, but seem to like them more when they are young as demonstrated by a quote from Lisa's First Word: "The older they get, the cuter they ain't." In particular they are similar in their relation to Homer. They hate Homer, although Selma gradually grows to become more tolerant towards Homer, while Petty has no pity for Homer's well-being. Their relationship with Homer remains one of mutual dislike, which involves a continuous exchange of insults from day one. They unfavorably compare their brother-in-law to a caveman. Patty and Selma hope that Marge will eventually divorce Homer. Both twin sisters tend to be cynical and are noted for their addiction to tobacco smoking. I choose Patty and Selma Bouvier because I can see something interesting and sometimes funny in them. I think that they live and don’t care about other people’s life, they live for their pleasure. But because they love their sister, they want her to be happy. They hate sister’s husband and try to find new boyfriend for her, but it hopelessly, Marge loves Homer. External links: 1.
