Dosbarth Meithrin. Autumn 2013
This terms theme is Happiness. We hope to be teaching the children about
the importance of happiness, health, well-being and celebrations.
In this term the children will learn;
 How to understand and appreciate their own feelings and the feelings
of others.
 How to eat healthily and how often this affects your well-being.
 How to keep safe and how being safe keeps us happy and well.
 How to describe emotions and feelings through drama, dance, art and
music.
 About significant happy life events that are celebrated.
We have had a fun start to our first term in Dosbarth Meithrin. The
children said that they were all scared at the thought of coming in to a
new class but now they think that it is fun.
Our Dosbarth Meithrin aims to create an environment, which will meet the
needs of each individual child, so that they can continue to build on their
existing knowledge and experiences that you, as parents have already
taught them. We will help the children to achieve their full potential in
every possible respect, developing their thinking, their knowledge, skills and
attitudes to prepare them for life in our ever- changing world.
We aim to create a warm, happy, secure and inviting learning setting which
will help the children to feel comfortable, confident, respectful of
themselves and others, regardless of gender, race or culture. We want the
children to have fun and to be happy, learn to become more independent –
to think and do things for themselves, learn to make choices, to share and
co-operate.
The cars and bikes were dirty so we had a lovely messy time washing them.
We then thought that it would be fun to paint pictures with the water on
the yard
A few times a week we do AMSER DEWIS. This is where the children are
given a sheet with lots of activities on. Their task is to choose 3 activities
in the colour of the day. They are brought together at the end of the
session and we discuss if the activities they have done match up to what
they chose. They are then given a sticker.
These are some pictures of the children HAVING FUN during AMSER
DEWIS.
We made our own dough and made our own happy faces.
We have been reading lots of Elmer stories and finding out how he makes
all the other elephants laugh.
We painted Elmer on the whiteboard.
We made Elmer
We made yummy Elmer biscuits and Elmer sandwiches
We painted Elmers’ jungle friends which are now on the wall outside our
classroom. We are always quiet leaving the class in case we wake the
animals up.
We are busy making Elmer masks
We had a lot of fun reading Elmer stories using our finger puppets. We
used our finger for Elmers trunk!
Sorting and matching activities during our ‘maths’ sessions.
We are learning our numbers by singing number songs using masks and
playing games
every afternoon we clean our teeth.

Birds of prey came into school. We had to be very quiet in case we
frightened them.
We painted fruit baskets. We looked at different fruits and drew them,
coloured them and cut them out to go into the baskets.
We have a lot of fun doing WRITE DANCE. We move to music and then
‘draw’ the music on paper.
We have been thinking about Autumn and what changes happen. We read
lots of stories about hedgehogs and learnt a new long word –HIBERNATE.
We thought it would be very sad to be a hedgehog as it wouldn’t be much
fun to sleep through the winter and miss Christmas. We thought that it
served the fox right when the hedgehog curled into a ball and stuck out his
spikes so that the fox hurt his nose and his mouth when he tried to eat
him.
We turned ourselves into hedgehogs.
The children were a bit scared when I told them we were going to eat
hedgehogs but we had a lot of fun during this activity.
We melted the chocolate. WHO ATE THE CHOCOLATE?????

We had fun with our talking telephones. 8 of us could talk at the
same time!!!!!
Dancing with our Punch balloons
DOUGH DISCO
For 5 minutes every morning we enjoy ‘Dough Disco’. When doing Dough
Disco we will be swopping between hand and finger exercises and palm, arm
and shoulder workouts- All for manual dexterity. We all have a piece of
play dough and we loosen up our hands and fingers by rolling, stretching,
squeezing etc so that we are ready for lots of painting, colouring, writing,
threading etc. We use VERY LOUD Disco music for this. It is great fun.
We had magic straws that turned our milk into milkshake
We were getting all
our clothes mixed up after P.E so we thought up a plan. We now ‘dress’ our
faces so that we can find our clothes easily when we get back to class.
Happiness and fun playing musical instruments.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY YSGOL BRO TAWE.
We put a photo of ourselves into a ‘TIME CAPSULE’. This capsule is
going to be buried in the school grounds and will be opened in 25
years’ time. These children could be parents themselves by then
and their own children might be looking at this photo!!!!
We all had a few balloons each and took them out on to
the MUGGA. We all cheered and let them go.
PENBLWYDD HAPUS YSGOL BRO TAWE.
We won best attendance!!
We won a 100% attendance certificate last week. We had the
certificate in front of all the other children in Assembly. We were
really proud.
