BKR TEAM: CRAFTS LEADER
As the Snacks Leader, you also help reinforce the Bible teaching each day. As you prepare each
day, pay close attention to the day’s Bible story, bottom line, and memory verse.
As you prepare for each day:
• Read through the teaching materials thoroughly.
• Look for ways to reinforce the biblical truths taught in Bible study during the snacks
rotation.
• Coordinate space and schedule with other leaders as needed.
• Arrange adequate room for kids to work.
• Only gather supplies for activities you plan to do and snacks you plan to provide.
• Make a list of the items The Rock Church has, items to collect from church members, and items to purchase.
• Label a box or crate for each day. Place collected supplies in the appropriate box.
• Prepare a sample of each snack chosen. Familiarize yourself with the procedures and what to expect when guiding children.
Tips from the Experts:
• Will you have kids wash their hands before touching their snacks or will you use hand
sanitizer?
• What other auxiliary snacks and beverages will you provide for the kids?
• Will the food attract unwanted critters?
• Will the food sit out the whole time to be eaten at the end, too?
• How will you tackle food allergies? (Gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free, etc.).

ASCEND BACKYARD KIDZ ROCK
Kids will be taking their faith to greater heights with ASCEND. They will go on a journey, discovering those who came before them that showed great faith and how God used them in miraculous
ways. The kids will learn who our ultimate witness is and how to follow Him, no matter what!
CHILDREN’S BIBLE VERSE
Rather than a Bible verse each day, the daily focus will be to memorize Matthew 17:20, NIrV.
The Bible stories are drawn from Hebrews 11. Every person we meet was mentioned by the author
of Hebrews for their incredible faith in God. Kids will learn to emulate the great cloud of witnesses
we have so that they can have faith in God no matter. Kids will also be presented with the Gospel,
and for those who know Christ, they will be challenged to live an authentic faith and share their
faith with others.
THEME: ASCEND: Taking your faith to greater heights
MEMORY VERSE: “What I’m about to tell you is true. If you have faith as small as a mustard seed,
it is enough. You can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there.’ And it will move. Nothing will
be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20, NIrV
Day 1:
Bible Story: God Tests Abraham’s Faith - Genesis 22:1-19
Bottom Line: God will provide, so believe in Jesus.
Day 2:
Bible Story: Moses and the Burning Bush - Exodus 3-4:17
Bottom Line: When God tells you to do something, don’t make excuses.
Day 3:
Bible Story: Cain and Abel - Genesis 4:1-8
Bottom Line: When you give to God, give with an overflowing heart.
Day 4:
Bible Story: Rahab Protects the Spies - Joshua 2
Bottom Line: True faith is shown by your good works.
Day 5:
Bible Story: God Through Us - Hebrews 11-12:3 (supporting: Matthew 5:16)
Bottom Line: We have many witnesses, so have faith in Jesus and share it!

Sharing the Gospel with Kids
The word gospel means “good news.” It is the message about Christ, the kingdom of God, and salvation. Use the following guide to share the Gospel with kids.
1. GOD RULES. The Bible tells us God created everything, including you and me, and He is in
charge of everything. Invite a volunteer to recite Genesis 1:1 from memory or read it from his or her
Bible. Read Revelation 4:11 and Colossians 1:16-17.
2. WE SINNED. Since the time of Adam and Eve, everyone has chosen to disobey God (Romans
3:23). The Bible calls this sin. Because God is holy, God cannot be around sin. Sin separates us from
God and deserves God’s punishment of death (Romans 6:23).
3. GOD PROVIDED. Read John 3:16 aloud. God sent His Son Jesus, the perfect solution to our sin
problem, to rescue us from the punishment we deserve. It’s something we, as sinners, could never
earn on our own. Jesus alone saves us. Read Ephesians 2:8-9.
4. JESUS GIVES. Jesus lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and rose again. Because
Jesus gave up His life for us, we can be welcomed into God’s family for eternity. This is the best gift
ever! Read Romans 5:8: 2 Corinthians 5:21; or 1 Peter 3:18.
5. WE RESPOND. We can respond to Jesus. The ABCs of becoming a Christian is a simple tool that
helps us remember how to respond when prompted by the Holy Spirit to receive the gift Jesus
offers.
ADMIT to God that you are a sinner. The first people God created chose to sin and disobey Him.
Ever since then, all people have chose to sin and disobey (Romans 3:23). Tell God you messed up
and you are sorry for doing your own thing, and turning away from Him through your thoughts,
words, and actions.
Repent, turn away from your sin (Acts 3:19; 1 John 1:9). Repent doesn’t just meaning turning from
doing bad things to doing good things. It means turning from sin and even from your own good
works, and turning to Jesus, trusting only in Him to save you.
BELIEVE that Jesus is God’s Son and accept God’s gift of forgiveness from sin. You must believe
that only Jesus can save you, and you cannot save yourself from your sin problem—not even by
praying to God, going to church, or reading your Bible. Your faith, or your trust is only in Jesus and
what He did for you through His life, death, and resurrection (Acts 16:31; Acts 4:12; John 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-9).
CONFESS your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Tell God and tell others what you believe. If
Jesus is your Savior, you are trusting only in Him to save you. Jesus is also Lord, which means He is
in charge and calling the shots in your life. You can start following Him and doing what He says in
the Bible. You are born again into a new life (John 3:3) and look forward to being with God forever
(Romans 10:9-10, 13)
____________________________________________________________________________
If you sense that children are under conviction from the Holy Spirit and would like to respond to
the Good News, spend some time counseling and praying with them individually. If you sense that
a child is not ready to pray and respond in faith and repentance, continue to prayerfully teach
them about Christ during BKR.

DAY 1
ACTIVITY: MONKEY BREAD
WHAT YOU NEED: Sliced bread cut into the shape of cactus, knife, paper plates, cookie
sheet, soft margarine, 1 teaspoon cinnamon in 1/2 cup of sugar mixed, and a toaster oven
or oven. Abraham and Isaac had to take food with them on their trip since there were no
restaurants. Maybe they took some bread along to eat. Today, we’re going to make some
sandy desert bread.

WHAT YOU DO: First, take your cactus and spread it with margarine. Next, sprinkle on a
little sandy mixture. Do you think they got sand in their food when they were eating? Next,
we’re going to toast our desert bread for just a few minutes. We need to place our bread
on the cookie sheet to bake it. Do you think Abraham and Isaac got thirsty on their trip?
What do you think they drank? Remember that Abraham trusted God and obeyed Him.
Let’s thank God for our snack and always obey Him.
PRAYER: Dear Father, help us, like Abraham, to put our trust in You and have faith that You
will provide and bless us. Amen.

DAY 2
ACTIVITY: JELLO FIRE
WHAT YOU NEED: Lemon, cherry and orange Jello. Whipped cream. (To put out the fire)
Pretzel rods for logs to put on the fire.
WHAT YOU DO: Give each child the three different kinds of Jello. Explain to them that it
looks like fire when you mix it all together. Be sure to briefly explain the fire and what it
means in this story. Then give them the pretzel rods to stoke the fire with. Then “panic”
and say that their fires are getting out of control and give the children the whipped cream
to “put out the fire”.
PRAYER: Lord, please, show us what you would like us to do and teach us to not make excuses. Even if the task you have given us is hard, teach us to find strength in you. Allow us
to have the mindset that we are doing everything as if we were doing it for you. Thank you
for all that you bless us with. Amen.

DAY 3
ACTIVITY 1: LEMONS AND LOLLIPOPS
WHAT YOU NEED: Lemons and lollipops
WHAT YOU DO: https://missionbibleclass.org/bright-ideas/life-application-activities/
lemons-and-lollies/
ACTIVITY 2: THANK YOU FOR BLESSINGS
WHAT YOU NEED: You will need enough strawberries and pretzels for a couple for each
child. Melted white and milk chocolate to dip the strawberries and pretzels. After dipping
these in the chocolate be sure to sprinkle them with some heart shaped sprinkles. Fondue
pots.
WHAT YOU DO: When the children arrive, have them sit and explain to them that it is important to give with an overflowing heart. Tell them that we are going to take turns dipping the pretzels and strawberries in the chocolates. When they’re using the sprinkles use
them to explain that they’re a resemblance to an overflowing heart.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, thank you for providing us with every blessing that we have.
Please teach us to give with a willing and overflowing heart. Thank you for the time we
are able to spend with you each day. Amen.

DAY 4
ACTIVITY: RED GALORE
WHAT YOU NEED: Red licorice. Apples. Cupcakes with red frosting. Fruit punch.
WHAT YOU DO: When giving out the snacks explain what the reasoning of what all the
red food is and what it must have been like for Rahab to help the spies. Then tell the children that Rahab was faithful and that her true faith was presented by her works.
PRAYER: God, we come before you and ask that you show us how to be bold. We thank
you for the stories you have placed into the Bible that teach us to be faithful by showing
our good works. Please allow us to have divine opportunities to be faithful to you. Amen.

DAY 5
ACTIVITY: ICE CREAM
WHAT YOU NEED: Sugar cones. Assorted fresh fruits (strawberries, grapes, melon, blueberries, etc.) Assorted ice cream flavors. Whipped cream. (Any other ice cream toppings.)
WHAT YOU DO: Have cones prepared to add fruit at a “fruit bar”. Be sure to tell the kids
not to break their cones. When children are finished with their cones of fruit, tell them we
have a surprise for them! Tell them we have an ice cream bar for them for all of their wonderful behavior throughout the week. Before allowing the children to get their cones filled
with the ice cream, use the cones as an analogy. Discuss how we are using these cones
for more than one purpose and that God is going to use us for more than one purpose.
We will need to let God use use or else people wont be able to take in the light that the
Lord has blessed us with. After explaining this to the kids, send them off to choose their
ice cream and toppings. Have adults there to help scoop ice cream and keep the toppings
under control.
PRAYER: Jesus, thank you for allowing us to spend this week with you. We would just like
to ask that you use us for your glory and that others with see your light in us before they
do see us. Thank you for each and every opportunity that you have given us to share your
Gospel, please allow this to continue! We love you so much! Amen.
