Type: A Explanation: It has only one clause, with just one verb. (e) The bus, which should have been there at half past ten, failed to arrive. Type: Explanation: Look at the exam-style question extract below. You don’t need to answer this question now. First, think how you might use different sentence types in a response. Paper 2 9 Write an article for a national newspaper, exploring the idea that sportsmen and women are poor role models for young people. (40 marks) Now consider this extract from one student’s answer to Question 9, then answer Question 2. Professional footballers are possibly the worst ‘fakers’. With just one tap from another player they fall over. Sometimes they dive to the ground. Occasionally they fly. They always start screaming. It shows they are seriously injured. They say it was a foul. They demand a free kick. It is ridiculous. 2 The extract from the student’s answer uses mainly short, single-clause sentences. Rewrite the extract. Aim to use a variety of the different sentence types. .................................................................................. .................................................................................. .................................................................................. .................................................................................. .................................................................................. 82 M02_ENGREV_WB_7895_SECB_047-106.indd 82 16/03/2016 14:54
