This workshop aims at understanding traditional and vernacular furniture of Gujarat. Indian furniture in its vernacular and traditional form is a
subject that is largely untouched. This workshop is an attempt to explore furniture traditions of Gujarat in the current scenario. This workshop
draws reference form the DICRC – SADACC collaborative project ‘Study of Vernacular Furniture of North West India’ and will follow a structure of
mapping, documentation, usage patterns, history, stories and myths associated to various traditional and vernacular furniture pieces of Gujarat.
Selected furniture pieces would be studied in a live context in a given region. The output of this project would be in the form of individual research
papers as well as a collective monograph.
This course will be conducted in association with DICRC.
