The Man, The Legend,
WARMEE, He’s the best ever!
After last week’s Program, I was so
impressed, I had to Google: David
Warmee, Yuba City High School
History Teacher. The first line above
is a comment that someone had
posted under his name. I can see
why…he was such a great story
teller, and as I sat up at the front
table and looked around the room
at all the Rotarian’s faces, they
were staring at him very attentively
and enthusiastically. I also had a
little insight, as my older son Matt
had always told me how great of a
teacher he was, and how much he
loved US History because of Mr.
Warmee. How would you like to
be able to have “reviews” written
about you like these?
• Mr. Warmee is hands down
the best teacher I have
ever had. He is extremely
kind, understanding, funny, and most
importantly a great teacher. He is very easygoing, yet serious about making sure
his students learn and enjoy history to the fullest. This is one of the best classes I
have ever had and the knowledge I obtained is simply priceless.
• Dave Warmee is the best teacher ever! Very cool guy, very knowledgeable and
the class is a blast. It’s not easy though, but you’ll have a great time.
• Best I’ve had. Hands down. He is always there when I need some well needed
help and sometimes advice. Dave Warmee is and always will be remembered :)
I took these straight from the Internet. As Bill Highland was standing there telling
the club what a great teacher David Warmee was and how highly regarded he is,
maybe he wasn’t exaggerating, huh?
Don’t’ forget that October is not only Vocational Services Month for Rotary, but
also PINK OCTOBER for our local community. Pink October was founded in 1997 by
Larry Geweke in an effort to bring early breast cancer detection awareness to our
local community. The Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation was started in 2006
and started out with a 5k Run/Walk. It has grown to six events and the purpose of
the foundation is to help local breast cancer patients with their financial hardships.
This Foundation has helped numerous women in our community, along with
women in the Rotary Club of Yuba City as well.
If you would like to be more involved, visit www.pink-october.org to learn more.
Yours in Rotary,
Cindy Seidel

Object of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal
of service as a basis of worthy
enterprise and, in particular, to
encourage and foster:
1. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for
service;
2. High ethical standards in
business and professions, the
recognition of the worthiness
of all useful occupations, and
the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
3. The application of the ideal
of service in each Rotarian’s
personal, business, and community life;
4. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a
world fellowship of business
and professional persons
united in the ideal of service.
The 4-Way Test
Rotary’s “4-Way Test” was
created by Rotarian Herbert
J. Taylor in 1932 when he
was asked to take charge of
the Chicago based Aluminum
Company, which was facing
bankruptcy. Taylor looked for
a way to save the struggling
company mired in depressioncaused financial difficulties. He
drew up a 24-word code of ethics
for all employees to follow in their
business and professional lives.
The 4-Way Test became the guide
for sales, production, advertising
and all relations with dealers and
customers, and the survival of
the company was credited to this
simple philosophy. The 4-Way
Test was adopted by Rotary
in 1943. The message should
be known and followed by all
Rotarians.
Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and
BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all
concerned?

Welcome: Our present and prescient President Cindy
created order out of the clamor by her bell.
Guests: Assistant District Governor Brent Hastey favored
the club with his presence. Happily, Jayne Silveria –
North State Title returned for another look. In addition,
Sean Anderson, was the guest of… (you know, that
Rotarian in the Witness Protection Program).
Announcements: An avalanche of announcements
covered the entire club for 20 minutes.
• Dr. Phillip Shelton gave a slide presentation on the
Sutter Buttes Imaging “Lasso a Friend” Mammogram
Drive $30 mammograms Saturday, October 19 from
9 am to 3 pm. (Etymology hint: this event is for
women as “lasso” is the feminine form of “laddo”
which pertains to men.)
• Tony Galyean was very excited to give an overview
of the clubs involvement in the Rotary
Dictionary Project. Last year
we gave away 375 books, this
year the club donated 603
dictionaries! Tony contemplates
early retirement to create
sufficient time for distribution,
should the club not provide
adequate help.
• Kathy P, accomplished advisor to
the YCHS Interact Club, explained
the annual Rotary/Interact Club
Book Drive, which is looking for
new and gently used books to
ends and
support our local schools.

presenting, “Dracula: the Musical?” October 25 at

• Cindy Seidel featured our continued alliance with
Founder
“Hands of Hope” by requesting Fall/Winter Donations.
Most Urgent Needs include: Ponchos, Umbrellas,
Chicago lawyer Paul P. Harris
Tarps, sleeping bags, gently used towels & clean,
but used winter blankets. Please bring them to the

• The Somali Pirate Defense Fund Benefit Dance has
been cancelled due to lack of public support.
Membership
Master of Fun: Carl, due to announcement-avalanche,
1.2 million men and women
gave up his slot to help dig the club out.
Fines & Bell Ringers: Yuba City Interact Club handed
Motto
on the fines based on TV Trivia (The Office & Grey’s
Service Above Self
Anatomy questions). Everyone struggled to come up
with answers to these obviously obscure questions :). A
flurry of fines followed: Becky J $10; Brian J $10; Linda
P $10; and Bill Highland $1000 (this may be a typo).
Bellringers
Program: David Warmee, retired History teacher
Carl Adams
from Yuba City High School gave an enlightening
Mark Bradley
presentation on President Jackson. (Observation: He
Jeremy Garcia
was quite an interesting character; one you would not
Norm Jones
imagine as possessing presidential material.)
