Grade 5
Scoring Rubric
To earn full credit (2 points), a student places

a set of coins where the nickels represent one-eighth of the entire combination of coins (1 point)
AND

a set of coins where the pennies represent one-fourth of the entire combination of coins (1 point)
AND

some dimes to define the total combination of coins.
To earn partial credit, a student answers one part correctly.
NOTE: To earn credit, a student must include nickel(s), pennies, and dimes in their response. Omitting
dimes in the response would demonstrate that the student didn’t understand sample space and the
concept that one-eighth plus one-fourth doesn’t equal one whole and, therefore, there must be some
dimes to fully demonstrate knowledge of fractions.
The student can use multiples of 8 as long as the proportions are correct for each type of coins.

3 of the 5 situations that are estimates in the correct location (1 point)
AND

2 of the 5 situations that need exact answers in the correct location (1 point).
To earn partial credit, a student

answers only one part correctly.
OR


L(–4,4), M(–2,6) (1 point)
AND


OR



a line segment with a y-intercept of $20 and extends (50,45) as requested in the problem (1 point)
AND

a line segment with a slope of $0.50 per text message (1 point).
To earn partial credit, a student draws

one correct line segment with a slope of $0.50 per text message but the y-intercept is incorrect
OR

a line segment with a y-intercept of $20 but the line segment extends to the left of the y-axis which
doesn’t make sense within the context of the problem
OR

6

Grade 9
Scoring Rubric
To earn full credit (2 points), a student correctly graphs

a line with a slope of –2 that passes through the y-intercept of (0,3) and the x-intercept of (1.5,0)
(1 point)
AND

a second line parallel to the given one which has a slope of –1 and passes through the y-intercept of
(0,–2) (1 point).
To earn partial credit, a student answers one part correctly.
NOTE: To earn credit, a student must graph lines. Just plotting points that demonstrate a relationship
will not earn credit.

Mathematics
Grade 9
Scoring Rubric
To earn full credit (2 points), a student draws

a line segment with a y-intercept greater than $150 (1 point)
AND

a slope less than $5 per guest but greater than or equal to $0. For example, the line segment could pass
through (0,250) and (40,350) which indicates a slope of $2.50 per guest and an initial fee of $250
(1 point).
To earn partial credit, a student will draw

one correct line segment with a slope of less than 5 per guest but the y-intercept is incorrect
OR

a correct line segment with a slope less than $5 per guest that extends to the left of the y-axis and
therefore contains negative number of guests.

AND

triangle R'S'T' correctly labeled (1 point)
AND

R'S'T' (1 point)
AND

10

Mathematics Scoring Rubrics for DCAS Practice Tests | 2012
To earn partial credit, a student will draw

a triangle with two of the three correct vertices labeled for each of the two triangles but there is a
consistency between the two transformations (2 points)
OR

the first triangle R'S'T' correctly with vertices at R'(–7,2), S'(–5,5), and T'(–2,1) but the student reflected
the triangle across the wrong y-axis with incorrect vertices of R"(7,2), S"(5,5), and T"(2,1) (2 points)
OR

any of the four requirements for full credit.

EOC Algebra II and Integrated Math III
Scoring Rubric
To earn full credit (2 points), the student provides

a correct factorization of the expression (1 point)
AND


NOTE: Do not factor out the common “3” to answer part A. If the students factor “3” in the first step,
then they must rewrite their work to fit the format of the problem and therefore show equivalent
expressions.
