Story by Kathy Kranking; art by The Character Shop
I just love Valentine’s Day.
It’s so romantic. You know—
hearts, flowers, love . . .
Becky re-uses wrapping paper she
saved to cut out lacy hearts.
The gang
is going to love
these!
Ooooh, yes.
Valentine’s Day is tomorrow! Ranger Rick
Raccoon, Scarlett Fox, Becky Hare, and Boomer
Badger are making plans for the big day.
Love, shmove.
Valentine’s Day is a time for
eating! Candy hearts, chocolates,
cupcakes—yum!
Hey, I have an idea.
Let’s make all our valentine
cards and decorations out
of recycled things
this year.
All the friends head to their homes
to make cards and decorations.
I’m off to deliver
Scarlett’s card next.
See you at the party
tomorrow.
Scarlett cuts out pictures
of flowers and hearts
from old magazines. Then
she glues them onto cardboard cutouts.
Beautiful!
Thanks, Boomer.
I love it!
Happy Valentine’s
Day, Rick. I hope you
like the card!
Would you mind putting these
chocolates in Scarlett’s mailbox
while you’re there?
No problem,
Rick!
Great idea,
Rick.
On his way, Boomer doesn’t
notice losing Rick’s valentine
card to Scarlett.
Yesterday’s
newspaper never
looked THIS good!
Later, Boomer stops at Rick’s den
while delivering his cards.
Wow!
A card AND a gift from
Boomer? Unbelievable!
Boomer folds scraps of paper
to make cards. Then he uses
markers and cut-out designs
to decorate them.
Hum-de-dum-dum,
another one done.
Next day, at the party . . .
Happy Valentine’s Day,
Boomer. I just LOVED my chocolates.
They were almost as sweet as
you for giving them!
Huh?

So to thank you, here are
your favorites— chocolatecovered berries!
I saw you leave a card
and candy in my mailbox. That
was so thoughtful of you!
Oh, no, those
weren’t . . .
Oh, and I’m really glad
you liked YOUR gift, Scarlett.
Catch you later.
Happy Valentine’s
Day, Scarlett.
Well . . . uh,
thanks!
Same to you! What a great
recycling idea. The decorations look
awesome, and I got some
beautiful cards.
So, uh, what about the
chocolates? I know you have a
sweet tooth.
A moment later . . .
Boomer Badger! My gift was
from Rick, not you! So my “thankyou” gift should go to him. Give it
back right now!
What? Those were
from YOU?
Uh, sorry, Scarlett—
too late. I already “recycled”
it—my way!

about making Earth-friendly
valentines!
