ABOUT THE WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC: The World Baseball Classic is the premier international baseball tournament,
sanctioned by the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), as the sport’s official National Team World
Championship,andfeaturesthebestplayersintheworldcompetingfortheirhomecountriesandterritories.Morethan
2.4 million fans from all over the world have attended the tournament games, held in March 2006, March 2009 and
March 2013. The Dominican Republic team is the reigning World Baseball Classic Champions after going undefeated
duringits2013championshiprun.JapanwontheinauguralWorldBaseballClassicin2006,andsuccessfullydefendedits
crownin2009.

o 95pitchespergameintheChampionshipRoundoftheTournament
Unlessthepitcherneedsmoretocompleteabatter’splateappearance;and
• Thrownomorethan:
o 49pitchesperexhibitiongameforaFederationTeam,orthemaximumnumberofpitchesthatWBCI
setsforthforsuchpitcherforsuchexhibitiongame,whicheverisless,ifthepitcherisunderreserveto
anMLBClub.WBCImaysetforthsuchamaximumuponthewrittenrequestofthepitcher’sMLBClub.
Forthepurposesofthepitcheruselimitationrules,bothsemi-finalgamesshallbedeemedtohavebeenplayedonthe
dayofthelatestsemi-finalgame.
EARLY TERMINATION RULE: The umpire-in-chief shall call a regulation game in the First and Second Rounds of the
TournamentandawardthevictorytotheFederationTeamthatisaheadwhenever:
• SuchFederationTeamisaheadby10ormorerunsafteranycompleteinning,beginningwiththecompletionofthe
seventhinning;or
• SuchFederationTeamisaheadby15ormorerunsafteranycompleteinning,beginningwiththecompletionofthe
fifthinning.
EXTRA INNINGS RULE:Foranyinningbeginningwiththe11thinning,theFederationTeamatbatshallbegintheinning
withrunnersonfirstandsecondbase.Thebatterwholeadsoffaninningshallcontinuetobethebatterwhowouldlead
offtheinningintheabsenceofthisextra-inningsrule.Therunneronfirstbaseshallbetheplayer(orasubstituteforsuch
player)inthebattingorderimmediatelyprecedingthebatterwholeadsofftheinning.Therunneronsecondbaseshall
betheplayer(orasubstituteforsuchplayer)inthebattingorderimmediatelyprecedingtherunneronfirstbase.
