Content Objective(s): Students will be able to distinguish the characteristics, similaraties and
differences of a prokaryotic and a eukaryotic cell
Students will be able to identify the two cell types based on visuals or
key facts
Students will investigate and understand relationships between cell
structure and function
Language Objective(s): Students will be able to explain orally and in writing the characteristics
of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
Students will use a graphic organizer (venn diagram) using words, key
phrases and/or pictures

Lesson Sequence:
Anticipatory Set/Warm up- Guess the word- "Eukaryote"?
Answer: A cell with a nucleus and organelles; examples include the following kingdoms: Protist,
Plant, Fungi, and Animal
What were the (2) types of cells we discussed this week?
Answer: Prokaryote and Eukaryote cells
Name (1) strategy you can use to remember the function of a eurkaryotes cell? Has a nucleus (U
CARRY IT)
Goal: We will review both cell types using individiual and group activities
Part one: 8:39-9:20 am:
Activity #1- Notes, "Organelles, cont."
1. Students take notes on organelles. Encourage participation by having the class read the notes
aloud. Students summarize notes and turn them in for grading.

2. Gallery walk: Using 16 vocabulary words from the Cells chapter- Students each get one or
two vocabulary words. Students go into the hallway and match each word with the appropriate
picture. Students then tell why their vocabulary term is like the picture.
Part two: 9:20-10:00 am
Activity #1- P's and E's
1.
Each student will get (2) index cards P-prokaryote and E- eukaryote
2. I will dispay a fact about each cell on the over head and the student will have to flash the "P
or E" card.
3. After the activity is complete… A reflection question???
What relationship do the colors I used for your P and E index cards have with their
characteristics?
P- blue, brown, black= ONLY bacteria
E- everything else
Time alloted for activity #1: 15 minutes
Activity #2- Venn Diagram
P and
E
1. Each student will get a venn diagram worksheet
2. l will model the activity by writing (1) fact about each cell and a fact that both cells share
3. Students will be required to write a minimum of (3) of facts as modeled above
Independent practice
4. Students can use their notes or their textbook to obtain the information
5. Once the 10 min. have elapsed, each student will share one fact from each category
Time alloted for activity #2: 15 min.
Activity #3
Carbs
Lipis
and Protiens
I will show 9 images and students must choose C
L
or P
Time alloted for activity #3- 5 minutes
Exit pass- 5 minutes
