Program Title: Water, Water Everywhere- The Water Cycle through Movement and Mindfulness:
Can be adapted for grades 3 and up
Contact Person: Jennifer Marvel
Students will develop an understanding of the water cycle through yoga poses and other creative
movement. They will use this knowledge to identify the elements of the water cycle and re-create the
water cycle in a group pose activity as well as building a group model. Students will also learn the
importance of water and why it is essential to all life. Students will discuss their favorite uses of water
and participate in a yoga class centered around water activities such as surfing, swimming, and boating.
A breathing activity, such as the ocean breath, will also be introduced.
Anticipated student outcome
Increase students’ ability to focus on learning, decrease stress, and improve balance and coordination
through the use of yoga postures. Group activities will develop interpersonal communication skills and
team work. Individual projects will allow the students to be reflective and work independently to
increase self awareness and self esteem.
While students learn and understand the water cycle, they will also: become more connected with their
bodies, learn to respect one another’s ideas and gain important stress management tools.
