Lenape Elementary Student Recognized by State Senate
Paige Wyant’s award-winning
proposal to require every high
school student to pass a first aid
class before graduation earned her
the opportunity to visit the state
Capitol and be honored by the
state Senate, according to Senator
Don White, R-41st District, who
hosted the Lenape Elementary
School (Armstrong County)
student and her family.
“Paige submitted the winning
entry in my “There Ought to be a
Law” essay competition that I
hold for elementary school
students in my district each year,”
said Senator White, in his
introduction of Paige on the floor
of the Senate. “Her suggestion that
students pass a first aid class is
truly worthy of legislative
consideration.”
Paige was accompanied to
Harrisburg by her parents, Joseph
and Kristen Wyant; her sister,
Lauren Wyant; her grandmother,
Helen Wyant; and, her teacher,
Kathy Walters.
In addition to being recognized
by the Senate, the group toured
the state Capitol and had lunch
with Senator White during their
visit to Harrisburg.

“There ought to be a Law” essay at 14 elementary schools across
competition since he took office the 41st Senatorial District.
Previous winning entries
in 2001. This year, he received a
total of 565 entries from students included proposals for children’s
health care, giving veterans’ a day
off on Veterans Day, mandatory
seat belts on school buses and mini
license plates for bicycles.
