It’s Not a War on Drugs
Free Wi-Fi in Co-op City
It’s not a war on drugs. Don’t ever think it’s a war
on drugs. It’s a war on the Blacks. It started as a
war on the Blacks; it’s now spread to Hispanics
and poor Whites. But initially it was a war on
Blacks. And it was designed basically to take that
energy that was coming out of the Civil Rights
Movement and destroy it.
Red Hook WiFi is a
community-led effort to
close the digital divide,
generate
economic
opportunity, facilitate
access to essential
services and improve quality of life in Red Hook,
Brooklyn via the deployment of a wireless Internet
network. In partnership with local businesses and
residents, Red Hook WiFi is providing access to
the Internet. Additionally, each time a user signs
on to the network, their splash page displays local
events, places of businesses, local news, jobs
listings and more. It is completely free to users.
Let’s emulate this program in Co-op City.

Jerome reported to 250 Broadway with the
attempt to speak to each City Councilman that
was not supporting the Community Safety Act
1079 and 1080. Jerome along with others also
participated in the press conference on the stairs
of City Hall standing on the side of justice.
The Co-op City Branch of NAACP was
organized in 1973. The objective was to bring the
principles of the National Organization to Co-op
City to fight for freedom, justice, equality and the
constitutional rights of Co-op City residents.
[On June 27, 2013, two of the Community Safety Act
bills were passed by the City Council with veto-proof
majorities of 34 to 17 (1080) and 40 to 11 (1079). On
July 23, 2013, Mayor Bloomberg vetoed both
bills. On August 22, 2013, the City Council overrode
the vetoes on 1080 (34 for, 15 against, 2 abstentions)
and 1079 (39 for, 10 against, 2 abstentions).]
In 2012, more than 3,200 people were serving life
in prison without parole for nonviolent crimes.

With The Power of Wi-Fi
Instead of ensuring that everyone in America can
compete in a global economy, instead of narrowing the
divide between rich and poor, instead of supporting
competitive free markets for American inventions that
use information—instead, that is, of ensuring that
America will lead the world in the information age—U.S.
politicians have chosen to keep Comcast and its fellow
giants happy.

that of whites. Say that black businesses only get 2
percent of the $1 trillion of black buying power, and then
say that black businesses are the greatest private
