No canteen today “Persevere in charity and bear down on the essentials ‐ never grow weary of doing what is right.” (2Thessalonians 3:13 ); Hello to all,
A big weekend just gone with our Eucharist celebrations on.
Congratulations to those children who made the First
Communion and many thanks to the students, parents, staff &
Fr Matt who made the celebrations such a great success.
The Olympics have also begun and for those who love this event
there is lots of sport on for the next few weeks.
We were privileged to have former student & current Para
Olympian, Josh Hose OAM, here last week to talk to us all. He
certainly is an inspiration and we thank him for his time
speaking about his experiences & journey towards Rio. We wish
him well in his quest to win back to back gold medals in Rio.
This week we welcome back Mrs. Sadler from her long service
leave for her last week before starting her big, new adventure
with the Catholic Education Office. It will be a sad week.
We also have meals on wheels for 3/4HK on Thursday and 3/4M
on Friday, as well as 5/6 Rookies Hooptime, mass for all 2B &
5/6M.
Don’t forget next Monday the 15th August is a pupil free
day, so no school for children.
Enjoy the week: Mick

2017 Enrolments
Kinder visits have concluded and enrolment packages have gone home to prospective
kinder families for 2017. These enrolment forms are due back at school by the end
of August. Can I ask that school based families who have a child for Foundation next
year please get onto this sooner rather than later and get these forms returned. It
certainly helps us out in the office as this is a busy time beginning to plan for 2017.
FYI: We have 15 enrolments in so far 
Kate Sadler’s Last Day
A happy & sad week for us all at St Patrick’s. On the one hand can I happily welcome back Mrs Kate Sadler
from leave with her family and on the other hand it is sad to say goodbye to Kate as she has her last day at
St Patrick’s on Thursday before moving on to her new adventure with the Catholic Education Office.
Kate has been at St Patrick’s for 14 years and I have had the privilege of both working along side Kate
both as a teacher, where we taught 5/6 together, up till now where she has been a major part of the
leadership team. Her dedication, her extremely high work ethic and absolute commitment to our school has
been outstanding and I know she will take these qualities into her new role and give outstanding service to
all the schools she will have under her care. Our loss is their gain.
Can I take this opportunity on behalf of the St Patrick’s School community to wish Kate all the best in her
new role. There is no doubt she will be missed by all at St Pats, however we are lucky to still have her
around as a parent and I know she will be involved with us through her new role as a special education
consultant when she visits our school.
We are having a farewell morning tea for Kate on Thursday at 11.00 and I extend an invitation to
anyone in our school community who would like to come along and join with the staff in wishing Kate
well. I look forward in seeing you there.
Leaving School Early
Just a reminder to parents that as a school we cannot let children leave the school grounds by themselves
before the end of the school day which is 3.15. The reality is that we have a duty of care during the school
day hours and need to ensure that all children are looked after and safe.
If parents would like to remove their child/ren early, all you have to do is come into the school and sign
them out. A note indicating they can leave early is not good enough as they need to leave the school
accompanied by an adult. Thank you for your support in this matter.
No School next Monday
Again just a reminder that there is no school for children next Monday 15th of August as the staff has
their religious education professional development for the year with Rose-Marie Prosser on scripture.
This Monday was the only day we could get Rose Marie that is why the MRC pupil free days and the St Pats
pupil free days are so close yet on different dates.
No Canteen this Friday
There is no canteen this Friday as MRC have the day off.
Teaching & Learning
2016 ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools)

3 | P a g e Grade 5/6 Spelling Championships
The fourth round of our annual spelling competition got underway today with a test on the fourth lot of 35
words. All the children in the 5/6 area will undergo 4 tests with those scoring 34 or 35/35 qualifying for
the grand final on the 22nd August. There is also a team aspect to this competition with all points scored
by students going towards house points and a chance for their house to win the House Spelling Shield.
A special congratulations to Johanna Deane, Emily Fryers, Lauren Ryan, Eliza
Fleming, Ella Sadler, Poppy Jenkins, Emily Darcy, Madidi McKenzie, Rory
Mason, Wil Absalom, Eloise Chivell, Georgia Buckle, Skye Baron, Ellie Rickard, Layla Delaney, Jessica
Bouchier, Jasmine Ryan, Sarah Lane, Tayla Kavenagh & Katherine Ryan who achieved 35/35 this week.
St Pat’s Olympics Day
Next Tuesday, 16th of August we will be involving the children in a St Patrick’s Olympics
day. The day will involve breaking the children up into mixed year groupings, assigning them
a country and involving them in activities for the day. More info will come home this week
so your child will know what countries colours to dress up in.
Production Update
The Opening Performance of Dangers Kids is approaching rapidly - in less than 4 weeks we will be
rehearsing in the Theatre. Last Monday we had our first full run through with acting and dancing which was
very successful in terms of understanding how the production all comes together. The Grade 5/6s, with the
support of the staff and you at home, have terrific knowledge of their lines - we are now focussing on
improving delivery and singing. Alice Corneby, Georgia Copeland, Marti McKenzie and Paula McKenzie are
adding polish to the dances whilst Sarah Pollard is doing wonders with costumes. It really is a team effort
and the excitement is building! DDDDDDDDD Danger Kids!

7 | P a g e Year 3/4 Numeracy News Welcome to Term 3, where the Year 3s and Year 4s are knuckling down to learn their basic times tables in the “old school” manner. We are presenting students with different types of “hands on” multiplication scenarios in their teacher groups at school and also placing great importance on memorising crucial times tables. By the end of this 4 week unit, we are aiming for all Year 3s to know their 10, 2, & 5 times tables automatically: ~ 10s are about place value ( “6 tens are 60!” ) ~2s are about knowing your doubles facts (“7 twos are 14….it’s the same as 7+7!”) ~5s might be a bit trickier, needing more memory power. We are aiming for all Year 4s to know the above ^ and also their 3 times tables by the end of the 4 week unit, with other times tables expected by the end of the year. For your information, we first deliver the times table as “1 three is 3….2 threes are 6….3 threes are 9 …4 threes are 12” as opposed to “3 x 1…3 x 2…3 x 3…3 x 4…”. The language we use initially reinforces the idea of multiplication as being equal groups. Once students have a basic level of facts under their belts, it is easy to teach the ‘turnaround’ nature and say the problem both ways. Our savvy ICT Coordinator Leah Sinnott found an engaging app for us to use in class that will help to cement the basic times tables and thought it may be of interest to you at home for any one of the times tables that your child wants to practice. Search for “Maths Rockx” in the App store: The app that sets it all up is free to download and then you go into the app to purchase times table songs individually – they are $1.49 each. No pressure to buy any at all but some students might like to buy one song that will help them along if a particular times table is bothersome to recall! Thanks! 8 | P a g e
