Here are your home learning activities for our AD900 topic. You need to choose at
least 5 activities from the boxes below to complete over the next term that will add
up to two hours worth of homework.
Your work should be beautifully presented and in your own words, you cannot just
copy and paste from the internet.
If you think of activities different to those that are listed below, check with your
teacher and you could do that instead!
Your homework should be brought into school: 1st homework - 1st March, 2nd homework– 8th March, 3rd homework– 15th March, 4th homework– 22nd March and 5th
homework– 29th March.
We would like you to present an oral presentation to the rest of the class about fascinating
facts on Mayan history, lasting no longer than
three minutes.
You may want to include:
Their gods and beliefs
Their festivals
The buildings that we can still see today
Their daily life
Their food
And anything else that you may have learnt.
You can present your information in a variety of
ways, a power point, visual images or on paper,
and should last approximately 3 minutes. If you
require any paper or card, please ask your teacher.
You could design and create a 3D model of a
Mayan building from AD900. This can be made
from paper mache, lego, clay etc. (If you need
paper or newspaper, then please ask). When
making your model, you must be mindful of quality, time and care. Your finished piece must
reflect 1 ½ hours of work.
What did the Maya Eat?
Choose a food item that Maya people
ate and draw a picture.
What interesting facts can you find out
about your food item? Where can you
buy these food products today? How
might they be used in cooking? In which
countries are they popular?
You could create a maths game using the
Mayan number system that you can play
with a partner next week. If your game
requires equipment, such as, dice, counters, paper and so on, we can provide
them at school.
Write a newspaper report about the
discovery of a ruin Mayan temple. Remember your features of a newspaper
report that you must include. For example: quotes, third person, pictures,
facts etc.
Write a poem about their culture.
This could be a list of words beginning
with each letter, a sentence for each
line or even a rhyme.
