A Saint for the Darkness
The Vatican has confirmed that Mother Teresa of Calcutta will be
canonized a saint on September 4 of this year at St. Peter’s
Basilica. As her death occurred in 1997, this declaration of
sainthood is one of the fastest in modern time, next to that of her
friend and admirer, Pope St. John Paul II.
In her own lifetime, Mother Teresa was known the world
over; some even thought of her as a holy celebrity. As the
Church goes forward with its plans for declaring her a heroic
for working with full commitment, while experiencing such
emptiness within; for Teresa, it was all God’s grace. It was
not a matter of emotional satisfaction or personal fulfillment.
She was vowed to the Lord and to serving him in the
abandoned and dying poor. That was her life, and she was
faithful to the end! —-Msgr. Gaspar Ancona, Faith Magazine
