ItismypleasuretowelcomeyouandyourchildrentoYear6.Wehaveaverybusy,yetexcitingyearaheadofusand
Icannotwaittogetstarted.Forthefirsthalfterm,thetopicwewillbestudyingistheAncientGreekcivilizationand
theirmythsandlegends.Iknowthatthestudentshavebeenworkinghardoverthesummertocompletetheir
researchandputtingtogetherworkforpresentation,andIameagertoseewhattheyhavedone.Aspartofour
topicthestudentswillhavetheopportunitytoattendafantasticworkshopattheBritishMuseum,lookingatwhat
lifewaslikeforanAncientAtheniancitizen.
SATsPreparation
ThisyearwillbeaveryimportantyearforthestudentsastheytaketheirSATs,markingtheendoftheirprimary
schooleducation.Toensurethattheyarewellprepared,thestudentswillbeginpreparationsfromthefirstday
back.Ourclassexpectations,inregardstobehaviour,effortandresilience,areveryhighandweexpectthestudents
tobegivingtheirallthroughouteveryactivity,bothinandoutofschool.Allstudentsmustalsohaveareadingbook
thatisinterestingbutchallengingtoreallyhelpthemdeveloptheirreadingskillsandvocabulary.
InordertosupportthemIwillbesettingregularSATspracticeaspartoftheirhomeworkviaanonlineprogramme
calledSATsCompanion,butthereisagreatdealthatyoucandotosupportthemtoosuchastimestablepractice,
spellingpracticeetc.Oneofthemostimportantthingsthatyoucandotohelppreparethem,istoreadwiththem,
orhavethemreadtoyouandthendiscusswhatyouhaveread.Oneofthemoredifficultskillsstudentswillbe
expectedtoexplainwhatspecificwordsshowthemaboutthesituationwithinthetext.Forexample,inthesentence
“…thechildleaptacrossthefield…”theword“leapt”mayshowtheywereinahurrytogetsomewhere.Ifyouhave
anyquestionsabouthowyoucansupportyourchildinpreparationfortheSATs,pleasefeelfreetocomeandsee
meandIwouldbehappytomaketimetodiscussthiswithyou.

Inordertogiveyouasenseoftheexpectationsforthisyearandforyoutohaveachancetoaskmeanyquestions
aboutthecurriculumforthisyear,theSATs,oranyotherareaofyourchild’seducation,IwillbehavingaParent’s
WorkshoponMonday19thSeptember.Thiswillstartat3.30pmuntil4.30pm.Attheendofthisletterisareplyslip,
ifyoucouldpleaseletmeknowifyouwillbeabletoattendandifyouhadanyquestionsinadvancethatyouwould
likemetoanswer.PleasereturnthistomebythisFridaysothatIcanplanasessionthatissuitedtoyourneeds.If

November.Itisafantasticexperienceforthechildrenandtheywillbenefitfromitinavarietyofways,including
buildinggroupworkandcommunicationskillsaswellasboostingself-esteem.Aletterwithmoreinformation

Thisyear,wewillbethefirstclasstoshowcasetheirlearningthroughtheirclassassembly.Thiswilltakeplaceon
Wednesday21stSeptemberintheTopHallat10am.Itwouldbefantastictoseeyouthere.

PEforYear6willtakeplaceonThursdayafternoon.PleaseensurethatyourchildispreparedwiththecorrectPEkit
fromthisweek.IfyouareunsureofthePEkit,studentsmusthavenavyblueshorts,awhitetshirtwithoutacollar
andtrainers.ThesecanbepurchasedfromtheReceptionOfficeisneeded.
Thisyear,Year6willhaveafortnightlyvisittotheSouthfieldsLibrary,everyalternateMonday.Thiswillstartfrom
the19thSeptember.Pleaseremindyourchildtobringtheirlibrarybooksbackeachfortnightsothattheycantake
