Tribute to ELEANOR FRIERSON Eleanor Frierson died at her home in Chevy Chase, Maryland on April 30, 2013, succumbing to a valiant fight against cancer. Eleanor, who served as the Deputy Director of the U.S. National Agricultural Library for eleven years, had retired from that position in December, 2011. She had a long and impressive career as a librarian, and including a post in Geneva as the head of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Library. Eleanor was selected as the Federal Librarian of the Year in 2010. She had contributed a great deal to US federal librarianship. For several years, she was the federal library representative to OCLC. Eleanor was a driving force behind the creation of the US website, Science.Gov, and brought that same level of energy and commitment to seeing the launch and growth of WorldwideScience.org. Eleanor Frierson was committed to the concept that information must be accessible and shared, and she saw the need for global collaboration as an imperative for success in today's knowledge-based society. Eleanor will be missed as a wonderful colleague and friend by ICSTI members and so many others that she touched during the course of her career. Contributions in her memory should be made to the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (www.FNIH.org). Eleanor's family requests that you designate the Safra Family Lodge as the specific recipient of your donation. The lodge provides comfortable housing for families of NIH Clinical Center patients.
