Chinese Archaeology Journal Now Available in English
Chinese Cultural Relics available in print and online
March 3, 2015 Minneapolis, Minn., USA -- The latest Chinese archaeological findings
are at readers’ fingertips with the new journal Chinese Cultural Relics, now available
both in print and online.
Important scholarly research on Chinese archaeology and cultural history is now available to English readers in East View’s official English translation of the award-winning
Chinese journal, Wenwu.
Each issue of Chinese Cultural Relics features current archaeological work in China,
such as reports on the survey of a 1,700-year-old Silk Road cemetery containing mythical carvings, or a collection of opulent clothing unearthed from a Ming Dynasty tomb.
Along with high-quality translations, the journal includes the same detailed photographs
and hand-drawn illustrations as the original Chinese edition.
“As a curator, I am dependent on the cumulative work of Chinese archaeologists to provide these objects with
biographies—to evaluate their age, provenance, context, and function,” said Elinor Pearlstein, associate curator of Chinese art at The Art Institute of Chicago. “Toward this end, the excavation reports and other studies
published in Wenwu have been essential but challenging resources. Their publication in complete and accurate
English translation, together with clear photos and line drawings, will prove invaluable for more thoughtful and
accurate research.”
With content from the journal featured in Archaeology magazine, International Business Times UK, Live Science, National Geographic Spain, NBC News, Yahoo News and others, Chinese Cultural Relics is clearly a
welcome resource for all those interested in the fascinating history, art and culture of China.
“The publication of Chinese Cultural Relics is a signal moment not only for scholars, but also for anyone interested in Chinese archaeology,” said Jarrett A. Lobell, executive editor of Archaeology magazine. “For the first
time, non-Chinese-speakers will have access to the highest-quality research in the field just as it was first published in the renowned journal Wenwu.”
East View has a long history of making authoritative journals, books and maps from Eurasia accessible through
English translation. Chinese Cultural Relics is an extension of this tradition and is now available both in print
and online. Sample articles and contents from the first issue and additional information can be found at www.
