NEWLY ELECTED: The Macomb Community College Board of Trustees elected new officers at the board’s Jan. 20
organizational meeting. Shown are (front row, from left): Connie Bolanowski, secretary; Christine Bonkowski,
trustee; and Roseanne DiMaria, vice chair. (Back row, from left) Jim Jacobs, college president; James F. Kelly,
treasurer; Nancy Falcone, chair; Frank DeSantis, trustee; and Joseph DeSantis, trustee.
conomic issues are on the forefront of the minds of
Macomb Community College Board of Trustees and
many elected officials.
Nancy Falcone, Chairman of the Macomb Community
College Board of Trustees, after being newly sworn in on
Jan. 20 said of the state of our County, “We need to all pull
together and look for creative ways to deal with the challenges
that are before us.” On Jan. 20, the Macomb Community
College Board of Trustees elected new officers and held the
swearing-in ceremony for three trustees re-elected to the
seven-person board in the November 2008 election.
Board members elected as officers were Chair – Nancy
Falcone, Washington Township; Vice Chair – Roseanne
DiMaria, Eastpointe; Secretary – Connie Bolanowski,
Washington Township; and Treasurer – James F. Kelly,
Eastpointe. After being sworn in to begin a new six-year term
on the board by Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh,
Nancy Falcone was re-elected as the chair of Macomb
Community College’s Board of Trustees.
Falcone has served as the board’s chair since 2005 and
served as the board’s secretary her first two years after
election to the board for a term beginning in 2003. She is a
former Michigan Department of State employee and is
currently on the Region One staff of the International UAW,
serving in a dual assignment as a community action program
representative and a labor representative.
Roseanne DiMaria, who has served on the college’s
board of trustees since 1999, was elected as the board’s vice
chair, a position she has held since 2007. She is a retired
surgical technician and is married to Macomb County
E
Commissioner Phil DiMaria.
Her husband Phil Di Maria said of our economy, “The
elected members of the Macomb County Board of
Commissioners need to work together to find constructive
ways to manage taxpayers money while still providing a high
level of services.”
Jim Jacobs, president of MCC, speaking at the Economic
Forecast of Macomb County, Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009 at Zuccaro’s
said: “Macomb County faces a difficult period because we are
not in control of our destiny. We need to continue to change
and develop and not just react.”
Toni Moceri, Macomb County Commissioner for Warren
stated: “We need to become a leader in the region and extend
our reach into the Global Economy and future sectors like
green technology jobs, advanced manufacturing, and focus
on education and training opportunities so that residents
can fully participate in the future economy.”
Jim Carabelli, County Commissioner, Shelby Township,
said, “Oakland University, the city of Sterling Heights, and
the Macomb County Planning and Economic Development
Department have started an incubator initiative to nurture
new businesses in the county. Homeland Security/Defense
and Medical Providers, among others, are being housed in
Sterling Heights. Federal, state, and county funding are in
place for the incubator programs which are expected to create
new jobs and businesses in Macomb County.”
During the board’s Jan. 20 meeting, Sabaugh also swore
in Frank DeSantis of Sterling Heights, who has served on the
college’s board since 1997, to a new six-year term. He serves
along with trustees Christine Bonkowski and Joseph DeSantis.
