Women comprise four-fifths of professionals in Eastern Visayas

Women comprise four-fifths of professionals in Eastern Visayas
Most or around four-fifths or 79.5% of the 73,000
employed professionals in Eastern Visayas are women.
This was the result of the latest Labor Force Survey
conducted in July 2013 by the Philippine Statistics
Authority-National Statistics Office.
Based on the Philippine Standard Occupational
Classification (PSOC), workers in this major occupation
group usually conduct analysis and research, and
develop concepts, theories and operational methods,
and advise on or apply existing knowledge related to
physical sciences including mathematics, engineering
and technology, and to life sciences including the
medical profession, as well as to social sciences and
humanities; teach the theory and practice of one or
more disciplines at different educational levels; teach
and educate handicapped persons; provide various
business, legal and social services; create and perform
works of art; provide spiritual guidance; and prepare
scientific papers and reports.

It should be noted also that more than half or 52.9% of the 274,000 officials of government and special interest
organizations, corporate executives, managers, managing proprietors and supervisors in the region are women. This
shows that more women than men occupy managerial and supervisory positions where they exercise decision-making
functions.
Moreover, women also outnumbered men among clerks (56.9%) and service workers and shop and market sales
workers (50.7%).
On the other hand, men dominated in the following occupation groups: plant and machine operators and
assemblers (100.0%), special occupations such as those in the military workforce (100.0%), trade and related workers
(90.2%), farmers, forestry workers and fishermen (84.7%), and laborers and unskilled workers (63.9%).
