Massage therapist Maurizio Lodato will lead focussed relaxation, gentle mindful stretching and self-acupressure massage, all designed to generate a feeling of wellbeing. April An Exploration of Hearing Loss 15th April – Chi Kung 21st April Human Rights and Mental Health 5th May With roots in Chinese medicine, philosophy and martial arts, Chi Kung (or Qigong) is a practice aligning body, breath and mind for health and meditation. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Led by Belinda Ackermann. 22nd April – Social Intelligence Social Intelligence is an ability that helps us understand the people around us and manage our relationships with them effectively. Reza Zolfagharifard will discuss the key factors which affect our social intelligence and the ways we can develop this useful ability. 6th May – Mindfulness and Compassion Roman Led by experienced mindfulness meditation coach and Stuart Low Trust Friday Evening Event host Katy Connell, this informal workshop will explore how practising mindfulness and compassion with ourselves and others can help bring us more peace and contentment. London 12th May Mrs H & the Sing-along Band 13th May – Let’s Dance If you’ve never tried dance before, this is the session for you! Experienced dance tutor Mark-Anthony Esau will gently guide you through various dance styles. Over 41,000 people are diagnosed with bowel cancer every year in the UK. Presented by Jayne Sutton of Bowel Cancer UK. Friday An Exploration of Hearing Loss 14 Meet Jean Straus, retired eavesdropper. Blighted at the youthful age of 62 into a world of hearing loss, Jean recounts her experiences with this highly unglamorous disability. You can’t see it, to cure it is only a dream, and you miss almost every other punch line! Jean will talk about the charity Action on Hearing Loss as well as the myths, realities and consequences of hearing loss. Friday Human Rights and Mental Health 21 Emily Graham from the British Institute of Human Rights will be talking about how the Human Rights Act is relevant for mental health and mental capacity services and sharing some real life examples from a recent project. Friday Bank Job 28 Lester Hillman is back to tell us all about £563m being poured into a hole next to the Bank of England to upgrade the tube service. With a new ban on almost all road vehicles at Bank this presentation could not be more timely! Supported by The National Lottery through Arts Council England. Friday Rona Topaz 19 Rona Topaz is a classically trained singer who believes in the power of showmanship to heal and uplift! She will be singing a mix of jazz, pop and show tunes from the 1950s up to the present day. Audience participation is warmly encouraged. Friday All On Board! 26 Chris McCabe will be here to chat about the different activities available at Islington Boat Club — on and off the water — including the UpperDeckers programme for over 50s and the All On Board project for people of all ages with disabilities, including those with special needs and mental health issues. This guided tour of the stadium includes a visit to the Arsenal Museum. Places are limited and we expect this trip to fill up quickly. Meeting place and further details will be provided upon booking.
