GRECIAN SCENES MEZE OUZERI FOOD FROM THE GREEK GODS 749 Nicholson Street Carlton north Telephone 9388 1558 What is a ‘Meze Ouzeri?’ ‘Meze’ is short for ‘Mezethathakia’ or Mezethes. It is a Greek term for many appetizer dishes usually served with ouzo or wine (more often with Retsina – traditional Greek Chardonnay). ‘Ouzeri’ is a Greek word for a venue that serves Ouzo as the primary and Meze as the accompaniment. Grecian Scenes Meze Ouzeri Food from the Greek Gods was launched on Sunday 23rd March 14 with its grand opening on Thursday 3rd April 2014. . Our cuisine is traditional Greek village homemade food in the form of meze as per the original Ouzeri set up. Summoned by the Greek God of harvest, Demeter, the Greek God of wine, Dionysios and all the Gods associated with food, nurture and hearth our intention is to bring back the traditional foods of old ensuring awareness of its history and of its origins. Just like Yiayia’s cooking, we want to bring back the flavour, the wholesomeness and warm feeling of home, family and the culture. Our logo is of Santorini (A Grecian Scene) with the Goddess of Harvest, Demeter (Food from the Greek Gods) imbedded in a vase that is sitting on an Ouzeri table, watching over us. There are wine glasses with “Meze Ouzeri” illustrating what we offer. Our focus is to ensure Greek culture, by bringing people together to celebrate each other, life, the Greek culture and the richness of our food. Our motto is “Thou shall always prosper if food is thine riches” Grecian Scenes and the Parthenon of Greek Gods.
