Topaz for Java Performance provides unique visibility into
the performance of Java batch programs and Websphere
transactions running on the mainframe. With these

Systems, which include leveraging the wealth of existing
Java expertise and lowering costs through the use of IBM’s
specialty processors.
In addition, Topaz for Java Performance seamlessly
integrates with Compuware Strobe, enabling staff to
take comprehensive measurements of their entire Java
environment—inside and out. Strobe delivers valuable
insight about Java Virtual Machine (JVM) jobs and specialty
processor usage, while Topaz for Java Performance provides
visibility inside the JVM for targeted tuning of Java programs.
All Topaz for Java Performance components can be
installed on z/OS Unix and use DB2 to store data. This
enables organizations to use their existing systems. Other
installation options are available for Windows platforms.

Analyze the Performance of Your Java Batch Programs
Many of today’s mainframe performance tools don’t provide
visibility into performance issues inside JVMs. Topaz for Java
Performance enables users to take immediate measurements
of JVMs as well as schedule future measurements, resulting
in fewer costs, less data collection and lower network traffic
than constant monitoring.

Websphere Application Server (WAS) can have tens

for Java Performance provides a list of Class Methods using

performance issues.
Topaz for Java Performance CPU Charts show which Java
Classes are using the most CPU by pinpointing where CPU
spikes occur and how much CPU is used at a given time.
Users can then take the information and decide how much
CPU to allocate to a particular JVM to ensure that workloads
are continuously processed without interruption.

Prevent Memory Leaks
Easy Heap Memory Monitoring
All JVMs are susceptible to memory leaks that occur when
Java objects are no longer used but are still being referenced.
Perpetual references prevent a process called “Garbage
Collection” from reclaiming the memory of these objects.
The Topaz for Java Performance Memory Charts show
memory growth over time, including periods after Garbage
Collection. This enables users to gauge whether Garbage
Collection was successful in reclaiming memory or whether
a memory leak exists.
Topaz for Java Performance Memory Charts also enable
users to see if their JVMs are hitting their maximum
allocated Heap Memory. A history of JVM measurements
provides a view of workload changes over time, helping
developers stay on top of changing workloads to ensure
they have enough memory allocated to their JVMs.
