Pugsley Frameset
By now you know that Pugsley was created to go where standard “all terrain” bikes flounder. The flotation and traction afforded
by large-volume, low-pressure tires can get you over and through otherwise un-rideable terrain…sand, mud, wet rocks and roots,
ice and many kinds of snow.
The Pugsley frame has 135mm-spaced horizontal rear-loading dropouts with a derailleur hanger. This means you can set it up
with a derailleured drivetrain or an internally-geared hub. Run it with a singlespeed freewheel or a fixed cog. You have lots
of drivetrain choices.
The stock fork accepts a 135mm rear mountain hub, just like the frame. This makes it easier to install and remove the wheel
(a big tire on a big rim benefits from a wide opening), and it allows front and rear wheel interchangeability. This means you
can have the ability to carry another full gear cluster, a singlespeed freewheel, or a fixed cog on the front wheel. And should
something go wrong with your primary drivetrain, you have the option of swapping wheels and continuing on your journey
or retreating to a place where you can make necessary repairs. The frame includes a Direct Mount adapter clamp, so you can
run the D-type derailleur which is the sensible choice given the size of the tires you’ll likely be using.
Pugsley is available as a frameset and as a complete bike. The complete bike sports a nice mix of components
chosen for their durability and value.

There are other fat bikes out there these days. Lots of them use equipment we originally developed for the
Pugsley. The Pugsley has not suffered in popularity with these new offerings, because it works exceedingly
well and, hey, it’s fun too.
This bicycle is intended for use on unpaved and gravel roads and trails with moderate grades. In this set
of conditions, contact with irregular terrain and loss of tire contact with the ground may occur. Jumps should
be limited to 30 cm (12˝) or less.

Tubing: Surly 4130 CroMoly steel. Main triangle double-butted. TIG-welded
Rear dropouts: Surly horizontal rear load, with derailleur hanger; 135mm O.L.D.; offset 17.5mm
Brake compatibility: 51mm IS disc mounts frame and fork. Note: please check your fork specifications
for specific brake adaptor requirements. Some of our forks use rear brake adaptors!
Braze-ons: Dual water bottle mounts, Surly Trip Guide full line guides for brake and derailleurs, fender
and rack eyelets
Seatpost diameter: 27.2mm
Seatpost clamp: 30.0mm (Surly stainless included)
Headset/Steertube: 1-1/8˝ threadless
Front derailleur clamp: D-type
Bottom bracket shell: 100mm wide, standard English threading (1.37˝ x 24t)
Chainring clearance: Compact triple: 22-32-44t (with 65mm rim)
Tire clearance: 3.8˝ on 82mm rims. Use of 82mm rims requires the use of Surly Mr. Whirly Offset Double crank
or truncated cassette to avoid tire/chain rub. Standard mountain triple gearing will work with 65mm rims
Fork: 447mm axle to crown, tapered straight blade, 4130 CroMoly. 51mm IS REAR disc mount. 135mm-spaced dropouts, 17.5mm offset

SERIAL NUMBER:______________________________
Get a pen and write down the serial number of your Surly immediately. The number is stamped into the bottom of the bottom bracket
shell. Having this number is imperative if your bike ever gets stolen or if you ever have questions about your frame…we are constantly
improving our products and sometimes the serial number is the only way to tell one generation of product from another.
LIMITED WARRANTY:
Surly frames and forks are guaranteed to be free from manufacturing defects for three years from the original date of purchase.
What this means is that if we screwed up something in the manufacturing process that resulted in the premature failure of the product,
we’ll fix or replace it at our discretion. This warranty is for the original buyer of the product and is not transferable. It should go without
saying that we won’t even consider your warranty problem without a dated proof-of-purchase. What this warranty doesn’t cover
is damage resulting from any sort of riding other than “normal” riding, and the inevitable wear and tear resulting from “normal” use.
Surly products are built to be used vigorously and we wouldn’t expect you to treat them gently, but we can’t be responsible for the
inherent danger to body and property you face each time you throw your leg over the top-tube. We’re hip to the “just riding along”
phenomenon and frankly, we’re just not having it.
Sorry, the paint-job isn’t covered, nor is any damage that happens to you or your other components as a result of any failure of one of
our products. Lastly, if you modify or neglect our products we can’t be responsible for them or what might happen to you while you’re
using them. We hate to spell it out, but hey, it’s the 21st Century. We’re known to back up our products, but we’ve seen too many peoples’
parts come back to us that were not defective and did not meet our warranty guidelines. Save your self some time and shipping money by
reading this and making a decision for yourself. If you and your shop think your Surly product is indeed worthy of a warranty inspection,
please return the product to the original place of purchase, accompanied by a sales receipt. In the unlikely event that this is not possible,
call or email us and we’ll do our best to get you riding again.
