Consultant in Gastroenterology
Dr Babur Javaid graduated from Punjab University Lahore, Pakistan in 1987. He completed his
specialist training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at Mersey Deanery,
Liverpool. During his training, Dr Javaid had the opportunity to work with Professor Sir Ian
Gilmore and Professor Jonathan Rhodes. He was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist
at North Cumbria University Hospitals in 2001. Aside from developing the Gastroenterology
service, he is also very committed to Training and Education. Dr Javaid successfully completed a
Diploma in Clinical Education in 2010. He also acts as an examiner for postgraduate examinations
on behalf of Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom. He has been involved with
research, and has acted as principal investigator/co-investigator for a number of multicentre
clinical trials.
Dr Javaid was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist in Bedford Hospital in April 2014. He
is clinical lead for Inflammatory Bowel Disease Service, and is also involved with endoscopy
training. He is predominantly a luminal Gastroenterologist who carries out both diagnostic and
therapeutic endoscopy procedures.
