York University Strike 2008
As of 12:01am on Thursday, November 6, 2008 York
University is on strike. All classes are suspended until further
notice, as the CUPE Local 3903 union members were unable to
reach an agreement with the university. The members of this
union include the teaching assistants, contract faculty, and
graduate assistants.
The university held a meeting on November 5, 2008 at
4:30pm and the meeting went until approximately 11pm, when it
was announced that there, unfortunately, would be a suspension
of all classes due to the strike.
While academic activities at the University have been
affected, non-academic activities are still continuing. Faculty
offices, university facilities and residences are still open for
business as usual.
If you have any questions or concerns about
university operations during the strike, you can talk to your
Don and also check out the Strike Updates on the bulletin
boards in the Stong Res Lobby. You can also visit the Yorku
website for updates. www.yorku.ca/

Obama as President
On November 4th, 2008 history was made. The 44th
president of the United States of America was elected, and that
man was Barack Obama. Obama is not only the 44th president, but
also the first African American president to be elected into the
White House.
As the leader of the Democratic Party Obama and Biden
campaigned against John McCain and Sarah Palin,
representatives of the Republican Party and successfully came out
above.
If you missed out on Obama’s acceptance speech and
McCain’s concession speech check it out on youtube.com. It was
a very special day for the whole world.
