Year 4 Home Learning – Spring Term 2016
Children should complete one activity each week; this is a 6 week half term. Children must complete at least one
activity from each section. It can be completed in your Home Learning books or on a separate sheet. We will
have a Home Learning gallery every Tuesday afternoon to share our work and give feedback.
Literacy Activities:
Numeracy Activities:
 Write a diary entry each day for a week that
explains what you did and how you felt. You could
write your diary in role choosing one of the below
options:

 Using your science knowledge of electricity, design a product that requires an electrical circuit to set off

 Find an example of a famous female scientist and explain why her discovery was so important. If you can
find a female scientist who made a contribution to the area of electricity even better!

Read, write and convert times between analogue and digital 12 and 24 hour clocks

Solve problems involving converting between different units of measure e.g. hour to
minutes; minutes to seconds; years to months; weeks to days

Recognising 3D shapes in real life e.g. a Toblerone (triangular prism)

Practise identifying fractions of a shape e.g. how much of a shape is shaded? And
fractions of number e.g. what is 1/3 of 9, what is 3/7 of 21? For more challenge,
adding and subtracting fractions with the same and different denominator.

count up and down in tenths and hundredths; recognise that hundredths arise when
dividing an object by 100 and dividing tenths by 10
 Practise mental maths e.g. times tables, addition and subtraction (What 25 more than
62? What is 58 less than 85?)
 Practice our key literacy skill for the term which is to develop our writing by:
- Recognising prefixes and suffixes and understanding how to add them
- Following the rules of writing dialogue


- The legacy of the Roman Empire in the local and surrounding area.
- The rise and fall of the Roman Empire
- Making comparisons between the Celtic and Roman ways of life
