Did you know...
From America to Zambia, our continents play host to every
country in the world. And, while each country and their people
are unique, so are the continents they dwell on. Each continent
is affected by its own unique location on the planet; experiencing
unique weather patterns and geological phenomena, like
mountains, deserts and volcanoes.
Here are some additional fun facts that you may not have known
about the world’s continents:
• The names of the continents begin and end with the same letter
• Asia is the largest continent covering 1/3 of the Earth’s surface
• Asia is also home to the 10 tallest mountain peaks in the world
• Africa is home to the longest river in the world, the Nile
• Africa is also home to the largest desert in the world, the Sahara
• Australia is the world’s largest island, and smallest continent
• Antarctica contains 70% of the world’s fresh water frozen into ice estimated to
be 2.5 miles thick
• Europe is the only continent without deserts
• Most counties in Europe use a single currency (money), the Euro?
• North America has five time zones
• North America also has the world’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Superior
• South America has the world’s largest salt water lake, Salar de Uyuni

7 Continents
Create your own Continental Drift!
You will need:
• A
blender or a food processor
Medium sized glasses • 2 straws • 1 cup frozen blueberries
• 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
• 1 cup low-fat milk (or dairy alternative)
• 1 Tbsp. frozen lemonade concentrate
• 1/2 cup vanilla yogurt
• 1 Tbsp. honey
• 1 graham cracker sheet
• 2
Place the blueberries and pin
apple chunks in a blender or
food processor.
The seven continents are landmasses that span the globe.
Some are joined together and others are separated by
water. It is believed that 300 million years ago, all continents
were joined in to one super continent called Pangaea (Pangee-uh). This large landmass then broke into the seven
continents we know now. To this day, the continents are
still in motion, slowly moving away or towards each other.
For example scientists calculate the continent of North
America slowly drifting away from Europe at a rate of 7cm
per year. They call this phenomenon continental drift.
Pour in the milk, and add the
lemonade concentrate,
vanilla yogurt, and honey.
Puree until smooth, then
pour into two medium sized
glasses. Lightly break the
graham cracker into chucks
representing continents,
and sprinkle it over your
smoothie.
Sip with straws and enjoy.
